It’s not a PPV fight. Really good fight though and I hope it comes off.

Such a good fight.

Buatsi was saying on Friday night that it doesn't happen though.

No he didn't. He said "That's been proposed to me" (didn't say by who) and then "I can be like yeah let's get Smith let's make it happen but I know it's not going to happen".

He notes, probably accurately, that because Smith has won his final eliminator, it isn't happening.

That was turned into a clickbait headline on Twitter then about 'an offer to fight'.....

I took what Buatsi said as being that he’d take the fight but he didn’t think Smith would as he’s already mandatory. Inactivity has been a problem for Smith and I think this fight would sell out the Echo. We also know Beterbiev isn’t fighting Smith until next summer at the earliest so perhaps he’s more willing to take the fight than Buatsi thought.

I’d imagine it’s mainly because he’d have made big money for the WBSS and massive money for Canelo so his guarantee is probably big. If he fought someone average then he’s not a big enough name in his own right to sell out arenas and drive viewers so tends to mainly fight on AJ undercards.

Him and Buatsi would be a class fight. Hope it happens but I think it’s more likely we see Buatsi/Bivol in the UAE in the Spring.

“He will return March 11 in Liverpool, that much I can confirm,” Hearn told Boxing Scene. “He’s gonna be mandated to fight the winner of Beterbiev and Yarde. There is the talk of a Buatsi fight, possibly."

“Regardless, we want him in with a world-ranked top fifteen fighter in Liverpool in March.”

“We’ll see if it’s Buatsi next for Callum Smith,” noted Hearn. “But what we do know, Callum is back at it March 11, and then— as long as he wins —onto the winner of Beterbiev-Yarde for all the marbles.”

In other words, there is no way he's fighting Buatsi.

Id be amazed if this even happens in this era of avoiding defeats thru inactivity or avoiding tougher tests .

They're both with Eddie, so it's definitely possible.

Tune up fight against any sanctioning body top 15er followed by his world title shot within 9 months.

Any Buatsi talk is a nonsense right now.

Yeah agreed. He’s unified a division pretty much, made huge money and doesn’t seem the type of lad to waste it so what worlds does he have left to conquer. Maybe he’s got one more big fight left in him :maybe:

He's been waiting for a final eliminator or mandatory slot. :TU:
