Sixty years ago last night, the great Sonny Liston who already cleaned up the division before getting his title shot, becomes the Heavyweight Champion of the World by destroying Two-time champ Floyd Patterson of Brooklyn, NY.

The great Sonny Liston had a 26-fight win streak since March 1955.
The only loss in his career was against top contender Marty Marshall, in which he avenged that defeat twice.
Liston was coming to the ring weighing 213lbs and Floyd Patterson weighed in 189lbs. A 24-pounds difference.
By 1960, Liston already cleaned up the heavyweight division in which he beat 6 top contenders.
Among those victims were:
Cleveland Williams (twice)
Zora Folley (W12)
Eddie Machen (W12)
Nino Valdez (WKO3)
Bert Whitehurst (twice)
Wayne Bethea (WKO1)
Mike DeJohn (WKO6)
Roy Harris (WTKO1)
Liston improves to 34-1, with 24 knockouts.
Patterson reign was over.
