Inoue v Butler could be the fight that rounds off the boxing year with a bang.

Credit to Butler for stepping up, but he'll have it all to do.

Paul Butler said: "I am under no illusions as to the size of the task that faces me, but I have been going to bed dreaming of becoming the undisputed bantamweight champion of the world."

We're gonna have a new undisputed champion this weekend (barring a draw or NC). This occasion solicited 0 replies

Meh, probably everybody figured Inoue was already unified. Butler was given an unearned interim belt shot at home vs an 18-5 opponent in April and won. Good on him for being willing to accept a beating from Inoue right away, rather than milking the paper belt

I think that's the general consensus.
Brave Butler facing the beast Inoue on his home soil. The card seems alright, the main event, well anything can happen in boxing, but if Butler doesn't end up on the canvas with the ref waving it off- I will be mighty surprised.

I suspect, despite what he might be saying now, that Paul Butler will also be mighty surprised if it ends in any other way.

Very embarrassing for Inoue if this isn't anything other than a complete walloping.

Butler and Gallagher are confident on the Boxing News podcast, but they're no exactly gonna say they know he's getting beat. Hard to see anything other than a demolition job by The Monster though!

Ino should stop him in a few rounds.

Butler executed his gameplan perfectly.

Which would be more impressive if it had been a plan to try to win the fight.

It was an appropriately modest plan given the opponent.

Perhaps this will be the way forward for British fighters who must be frankly getting fed up of losing in world title bouts.

Sign for a big but potentially dangerous fight, survive 12 rounds, anyway anyhow, and live to collect the cheque.

Bonecrusher Smith once employed a similar strategy against Iron Mike. He was just that little bit more successful than Paul Butler.

Surely his plan was to survive 12 rounds....?

I just watched the extended highlights video of this bout.

Inoue is too big and strong for these common bantamweights.

Butler was one of the better and stronger bantams.

Inoue is a throwback to Duran and Pacqiou. He's reminiscent to Wilfredo Gomez as well.

I want to see him move up. I want to see Loma move back down.

How about Loma vs Inoue at 130..!?

It could be at a catchweight(128) as well.

I see Inoue packing on that amount of size with no detrement to his behalf.
Likewise, the same for Loma, except, for him to drop some excess "Muscle-Weight", could only be a benefit for his behalf.
I'd make a Fun ideas based Boxing Promoter !

That was the best plan for Butler and he did his best to carry it out as perfectly as he could but the step up against Inoue was a step up too far.

"And speaking post-fight, the 'Baby Faced Assassin' paid tribute to Inoue and acknowledged that he fell short against the 29-year-old.

He said: “You can see the punches coming but sometimes you can’t react quick enough to get out of the way, because he is that fast.

“That’s what really good fighters do — they have good timing, good accuracy and good speed, and sometimes you just can’t get out of the way of that.

“He’s quite ignorant in his defence. He knows he’s got punching power and he knows he’s got a good chin himself. Maybe when he goes up the weights, not that he’ll come unstuck but I think he’ll have a little bit more to think about.”

After the bout, Inoue took the opportunity to declare his historic victory as the 'final chapter' of his bantamweight career and also praised Butler for making the trip over to Japan.

“This has been a long journey for me but this is the final chapter at bantamweight and I have made it.

Now I consider to change my division,” Inoue said.
