moorer had like 10 defenses til he stepped up to heavy. shortly after dariusz michalchewski took the belt from leonzer barber and defended it forever, like 90 times or something like that.
doesn't fill any of the blanks but that's about it from me without cheating.
after looking up shit, I think, without looking it up, maybe hearns at supermiddle would've probably popped up too, after 2 years of intense brain searching.
somehow I got a feeling you violated your own strict 'no cheating' policy right from the get go. (I think)

Elvis Alvarez was the first WBO flyweight champ (from memory), a brilliant fighter.

... and wasn't Gaby Canizales one of the first WBO champions?

Yes, he pulled out a brilliant left hook to blitz Miguel Lora in the second round after Israel Contreras, the first WBO bantam king, had relinquished to go after a more established belt. I have read that Lora suffered a broken neck from Gaby's left hook.

No, I'm good with stuff like that, obscure belts etc. But I am useless at dates and locations.
When I'm bored, I'll do something daft, like list all IBF Heavyweight title fights in order. I know, I'm weird.

Bennie,
Was Israel Contreras the first WBO bantamweight champ?

Yes, he was. He won the vacant title (from memory) against a hapless Italian who did not deserve a crack at the belt and stopped the useful Ray Minus in defence of the title. However, Contreras was unhappy at the purses offered to him as champ and decided to vacate.

Cool. I've updated it. Without cheating I wondered if Baby Jake Matala was the first light fly champ. I am probably racing ahead.

Happy Lora has got to be one of the best knicknames ever.

The fewer of these you can answer.........the better you look.
No person who has or ever had a useful function in society could name all of them without a reference.

There's a bonus point if you can tell me whether or not Jackson had that crazy hair piece for that fight,.

Damn brother it was hard enough for an old man to remember such an insignificant fight.
At my age I'm lucky to remember my anniversary and the grandkids birthdays.

Wow I need to check up on that. I can't believe what I have forgotten over the years.
Yet some insignificant fight stands out in my head at some moment like it was yesterday

Paul weir won vacant titles at straw and light fly hit someone held both before him. I think he was the second holder of the straw title

Stecca repeated a win over Pedro Nolasco to lift the WBO belt. He had outscored Nolasco in the 1984 Olympics. Stecca flopped in the pro ranks, in my opinion. Whenever he met someone with a pulse, he was beaten.

I remember at super-flyweight, a very good fighter by the name of Jesus Rojas suffered a shock defeat to Jose Ruiz for the vacant title. Ruiz boxed brilliantly on the night. There was another upset at super-bantamweight where Kenny Mitchell, a stumpy American with a penchant for using his head, defeated a Puerto Rican who had previously held a major world title. I can't remember the Puerto Rican's name.
