The W.B.C. overturned the draw between Fenech and Nelson and awarded the decision victory-and the title-to Fenech. Thoughts on this ?

weird to be doing stuff like this 30 years later........and what about all the other robberies? why only this fight?

I actually re-watched the bout and scored it 115-113 Fenech-closer than when I watched it live on ppv. I guess Nelson will have to be credited with regaining the title based on his knockout of Fenech in the rematch.

In that case Jesse James Leija did not win the title from Nelson later on?!?!
I have watched the fight several times and I have it close for Fenech.

KO mag were so incensed they refused to rank Nelson over Jeff and only reversed that when he got knocked out.

WBC does not have the authority to overturn the decision.
Only the Nevada State Athletic Commission can do that.
WBC owns the belt and can hand it out to anybody they choose at anytime(as proven by this event) but unless the NSAC follows suit the official result is the same as it always has been.

I'm surprised that they overturned that original decision 30 years after they first fought.

the decision isnt overturned, and tbh ive seen nothing to suggest that nelson no longer counts as retaining his title. seems more like a ceremonial/symbolic awarding of the belt

I was somewhat puzzled to watch Michael nunn being interviewed in the WBC’s office surrounded by wbc belts given how they treated him. I don’t know who it was interviewing. But he sounded Mexican. Do they have no shame?

Pepe Suilaman interviewed him. Mike says the WBC have always treated him well and was close to Jose and the WBC do nice things for him. He speaks very highly of them and while he never held one of their titles, he does hold them in high esteem. Jose told him he felt bad about the officiating and verdict of the Rocchigiani fight and Mauricio later gave Nunn a belt in a manner not dissimilar to this Fenech stuff.

The Ramirez fight was more of a robbery IMO.
