Who wins??
Calzaghe on points. Canelo ain't putting Joe to sleep and the Welshman throws too many shots to lose on points.

Agreed. Both got cast iron whiskers but Joe was an absolute machine

He's in the conversation for best British boxer ever. Maybe he's at the top of the list.

JC clearly, bigger man, better, busier boxer and a chin which would hold up.

Canelo is obviously one of the best in the world at the moment, but people also forget he was outboxed by little PBF.

Even with the Mexican beef, JC wins at a canter

I trained with Alex Arthur for a few months and he said Calzaghe was hands down the best fighter he ever knew. Said he was on another level strength and fitness wise.

Styles make fights, and this would be a pretty easy one for Calzaghe imo, Canelo is made for him.

Someone like Andre Ward would be a far more difficult proposition.

Now there was a fighter … Andre Ward.

I think a prime Ward would have beaten Calzaghe.

For me only a prime RJJ and BHOP beats Joe in their eras. BHOP did nick their fight imo and he was like 70 years old.

Joe would absolutely beat Canelo. I can’t see how he wins rounds never mind the fight.

Joe was truly special.

Great question - I would favour Joe, but I wouldn't write off Canelo. Calzaghe did lose rounds against Kessler, Brewer, and a few others - the Lacy hype might have flattered Joe a little.

Again not being critical of those favouring Joe - but to say its difficult to see how Joe loses rounds might be doing Canelo a disservice - he is not a Lacy.

People also forget Joe could hit hard until his hands went and he changed technique.

Hard to pinpoint where Calzaghe’s peak sits. The obvious choice everyone picks was probably when his hands were shot and he was winning every fight on points. Thinking of Sturm v De La Hoya, some America judges might plump for Canelo on home ground. I don’t think any serious polls in Boxing News ever put Calzaghe above Jones. I think it’s fair comment Ward would have had live chances with his accuracy. Maybe Calzaghe squeaks it on home territory. I don’t think in America he would ever have beaten Ward.

Khan wasn't doing too badly against Canelo but eventually got caught....Calzaghe wouldn't get caught and would throw even more punches......Calzaghe's legacy gets better as time goes by.....I'm pleased I got to see him live many times.

Hard to argue that he isn't our all time greatest?!

Prime Ward, before the layoff would have beaten any Super Middle in history for me.

Calzaghe vastly outworks Canelo, taps and slaps the sh1t out of the Redhead.

Canelo for sure. Calzaghe getting overrated on the British forum.

Calzaghe would lose to Bivol too.

I am going to have to remain consistent from the old days … 😂

I had a downer on Calzaghe and was extremely stubborn considering his abilities and in addition I argued and argued about Calzaghes standing in the p4p ranks …

So lets start rucking like the old days🤣 when I give you the following statements …

Joe Calzaghe had a padded & inflated record.

Calzaghe’s best wins were against:

Over hyped american “club” fighter Jeff Lacey.

An old & past it Roy Jones Jr.

An old & past it Bernard Hopkins.

Whilst I think Joe Calzaghe was a good fighter …

Carl Froch had a better record in that he was not protected and fought fighters in their prime

I invite the forums considered responses :TU:

That's a bold statement.

1. Prime Roy Jones?

2. Hopkins as he went up.

3. Sven ottke?

(One of those 3 is a joke of course).
