Everything in this country is knackered, everything's a rip off, everything's fvcked, run into the ground, and/or a scam.
The more you look at it, It's third world stuff.
i saw a quote just now, 'Britain and the US are poor countries with some very rich people', third world feels like a bit of an exaggeration but the complacent assumptions of my twenties and thirties are far, far behind me. fvcking 13 years of tory misrule
ATory councillor has sparked fury with a "racist" Ian Wright tweet after the Gary Lineker BBC Match of the Day row. Alexis McEvoy, a councillor in New Forest, sparked a fierce backlash with her tweet about the Arsenal, West Ham United and Crystal Palace legend.
In a now deleted tweet, she branded Wright a “typical black hypocrite”. The councillor in the New Forest, Hampshire, sparked fury with the quote tweet in the wake of Wright pulling out of MOTD.
Ms McEvoy insisted to the Advertiser and Times that her comments had been “taken out of context”.
Ms McEvoy insisted to the Advertiser and Times that her comments had been “taken out of context” yeah, out of context, that is simply brilliant, I really can't wait to hear in what context 'typical black hypocrite' is somehow not racist

just tory grassroots knts being tory grassroots knts, effectively trying to bully tory mp's into not taking part in the investigation into BJ's blizzard of lies:
The Conservative grassroots website Conservative Post has launched a campaign to demand four Tory MPs on the Privileges Committee investigating Partygate step down from the committee. They are calling on Tory members to send emails to each of the four MPs, warning them that party members will not "tolerate politically motivated attacks against our party" over concerns the investigation is an anti-Boris Labour stitch-up.
The email template continues: "We believe that this investigation is nothing but a politically motivated attack against our former Prime Minister, and it is not based on facts or evidence.
"The processes being applied to our Parliamentary democracy are reminiscent of a banana republic and are no longer objective or independent.
"We have witnessed collusion within the Civil Service and now within the Conservative Parliamentary Party and the office of the Prime Minister to reputationally smear and impugn Boris Johnson MP."
notice the 'anti-Boris' line in there, literally Cult of the Personality stuff, how dare you accuse Our Boris, what a bunch of idolatrous wet-dreamers, fcking spaffing over BJ, christ there isn't much that is quite as pathetic as a tory member. The people who gave us Liz Truss, let's not forget. fvcking weirdo imbeciles

Used to have one, loved it
Yeah, they're a nice thing. I had one a few years ago (though not the V8) and should never got rid of it really.
I got a Maserati QP instead but it was too expensive to run and it's not really me TBH. The itch had been scratched so I moved it on when somebody approached me to buy it.

Much cooler - a beast, but I don't suppose you're saving much on the "expensive to run" are you ?

It's servicing and parts that kill you with a Maserati. Plus, the QP is just too big to drive on anything other than a motorway. Well, for me anyway.

More so than BMWs and Audis, yes. But no more than Jags. The bigger problem is finding a buyer, it's a very limited pool. A lot of people are scared by them.

I saw the Tweet. There was no context. The words were, 'A typical black hypocrite'. They were the only words.

You're being very naive. You should try living in a third world country for a while, you'd soon change your tune. I, for one, am very grateful to live here and can't wait to see what happens if/when Sir Keir and his cabinet full of Sensible Centrists get their go at governing.
You ever lived in the third world then? (Doncaster doesn't count).
The point I was making, however, is that things are going backwards, our infrastructure, public services and civil society. Now don't be so obtuse. Frankly, it's getting boring, Rob.
The Sensible Centrists will save us. Doncaster might regain it's first world status to go along with it's new city status and former residents might stop superciliously sneering at the place and it's inhabitants.

Well Newham in East London, where I grew up, has changed so radically over the last 25 to 30 years that even I don't know what my identity is anymore. In my early years it was typical working class socialism without any diehard adherence. As time progressed I moved away from socialism but with some principles that are immutable to me. I am the same in those core centrist beliefs but the radical left wing have moved their goalpost. I guess that makes me a conservative right winger now.
Don't know if Donny can be saved by Sensible Centrist politics.....but I bet it is better than any 3rd World country you have ever lived in.
Tell you what, I was only half joking. I was in Donny the other day at it wasn't great.
I came on the train from London and what should have been a journey of 1hr 45 mins ended up taking about 5 hours - due to high winds apparently (there weren't any high winds). So, that wasn't a great start.
When I eventually got there and left the station I was immediately asked for money by a junkie.
Then I walked through town and a lot of the shops were either boarded up or were now charity shops; pawnbrokers; 'foreign' min-markets; or vape shops. There used to be some nice shops in Doncaster: Taylor and Colbrige; Binns; Hodgson and Hepworths; Cuttresses and loads of others. The outdoor market I noticed is dying as well.
A lot of the people looked defeated: overweight, disabled, ill, dishevelled, or a combination of all those things. Lots of piss artists stood outside pubs looking scruffy and disorientated. I cut through Silver Street and what used to be Rotters looks like a pig sty and then past the Danum hotel, which used to be a nice place. I remember my uncle getting married there back in the day. It's full of Afghan refugees nowadays I believe.
All in all, the place is going backwards and it's a great pity - and I take no pleasure in saying that. But city status, come on. Doncaster's not a city by any sensible criteria. It's not a big metropolis like Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester, etc. Nor is it a 'pretty city' like York, Durham or Chester.
It's industry has gone; the local authority staggers from one crisis to another; it's sports teams have never won a brass bean; it's got no university; and no airport now. I can't see how it qualifies as a city. If Doncaster continues to decline over the next thirty years at the same rate as it has for the past thirty years, then third world won't be too far off the mark.

Can't imagine what "Rotters" looked like before it looked like a pig-sty !
You may mock but it was one of the premier night clubs. (Or nite spots whatever they were back then). People used to come from all over for the northern soul nights.
Mercs is right it’s become a proper doss hole now. The arse has been ripped out of it for ages and it’s had little investment in the actual town centre. Tneu spent millions and millions putting in a stupid fcking road to the airport then went and shut the airport…
It’s a huge hub for transport and always has been for rail and road. We have loads of business in terms of warehouse and freight and the Amazon here is one of the biggest in Europe but it’s like call centres, they provide jobs but with little prospects. I know plenty of people who work at both.
Rotters then became a huge towny nightclub and it’s gone downhill since the early 90s, as did the other big club. Most of the other clubs shut too.
Now is it places like Meadowhall that kill towns? Or is it a multitude of factors? Why does the high street turn into a bunch of pound shops, vape and mobile phone cheapo shops? The shopping centre is a weird weird mix of chains and crap. I was in there just before Christmas and it depressed the crap out of me despite being busy. I believe the Waterstones is still the UK’s poorest performing too and has been since it was opened.

Rotters was the first nightclub I ever went to, circa 1981. It was all chrome, Pernod and black, and thick burgundy upholstery in those days It was seen as quite cool to have a Rotters' membership card in your back pocket back in the day.
Very popular though and they used to travel from all over to go there. There was also a TV advert "Are you ready for Rotters?...". You might not be old enough the remember it. An 'alternative scene' upstairs, the Hot Tub Club/Scene 2.
Quite a lot of boxing at Rotters back in the day as well, a good few pro shows.
Yeah it shut well before my nightclub days. I went to what it became in 88.
I know in the rotters days it was carpet and chrome from what others told me. Apparently it was a chain, which makes sense as it was top rank? Owned by rank films. Sheffield’s top rank became Barry Noble’s Roxy.
I didn’t know about the boxing but it was a big venue from memory. I saw bands there in the 80s and they used it as part of the circuit in the 70s. I dj’d in the small room a couple of times, once just coming down off acid so not the best evening of my life.

Yeah, they had pro boxing at Rotters in the early 80, Pete Gabbitus and others managed by a young John Rushton on the bill.
ps. I think it was a Top Rank before it became Rotters, yes. That was before my time though.
