This would've been a good bout at that specific time.
Pete Ranzany beat Randy Shields, by 11th round tko. He also decisioned The travelling Work Horse Jimmy Heir. Heir went the 10 round distance with Duran in 1979. Green decisioned Andy Price in 1977, in a thrilling back and forth scrap, in the U.K. Which was A bit of a gift, being that it wouldve likely been scored a Draw had it been in the U.S.A or a neutral location. Green lasted until the 11th round versus Palomino. Giving a rather good account of himself in that bid for the title. It was after Green's loss to Jorgen Hansen that basically spelled the end of any remaining forminability that Green had left. By the time he was put in versus Leonard, as merely A tune-up for Leonard, Green was just an opponent by that time.
Already mere Cannon Fodder as the saying goes. It's kind of interesting that he looked like a durable opponent for Leonard, in the first two rounds, and then he started getting tagged Alot More frequently in the third round, and then of course Rocked, and then serving as A highlight reel KO Victim. It's one of those fascinating Ko's, whereas Price getting Ko'd in the first round by Leonard always struck me as disturbing. The way he looked like he might get up and then basically passes out, as if he died of a heart attack. That was the visual aspect, wheras with Green, it looked like he had been struck dead with a missle. The Ko that Pacqiou had over Hatton was Very Similar to Leonard ko'ing Green.
I guess my points here are just emphasizing the styles based aspects of Boxing. As I pointed out, Ranzany tko'd Shields.
Also, Shields went 15 with Cuevas in a bout that should've been no better than a gift draw for Cuevas.
Cuevas of course overwhelmed and knocked Ranzany silly, in 2 rounds.
Ranzany versus Green in 1977 would've been mostly back and forth. I don't think Green would have enough offense power to overwhelm Ranzany. Probably the same with Pete. Although I think that Pete would be slightly stronger in the last 2 rounds if it's a 12 round bout. So I'd pick Pete to win by a close decision if it's a 12 rounder. A Draw if it's a 10 rounder. Or at least, that's what it would likely look like from most of the audience's perspective.
