Does anyone remember him from the early 80's ? I just saw on Twitter the TV listings for Grandstand today in 1982 had boxing from the Albert Hall featuring heavyweight prospects Banjo and Frank Bruno. Bruno beat Gilbert Acuna in the first round and Banjo outpointed Mick Chimilowski over eight rounds.
I remember the name but can't think of anything about any of his fights , he had a decent enough record beating Hughroy Curry before losing to him for the British title after losing on points to Marvis Frazier.

I remember him because of his name. ‘80s heavyweight. His son is a rapper or something. He was interviewed with Funso at a show a while back.

His 2 boys Ashley and Jordan are in the dance group diversity. Ashley started it and became famous when they won Britain’s Got Talent. Both take after their dad and are big blokes.

i remember watching him fight,there were a few decent domestic fights involving him,hughroy Currie and Horace Notice if i remember correctly.

Btw Horace Notice was very very good. Under-sized in todays standards but well above average.
Dad took me to see Horace v Proud Kilimanjaro in Dudley.
Sadly injury scuppered his career.

pretty sure i did too,i watched every fight at the time.ITV had a few Saturday afternoon shows too which were entertaining

This thread got me going down the boxrec wormhole, I had no idea that Najib Daho died in 1993. Poor bugger, he was one of the names I remember from ITVs Fight Night.

He had 2 classics with Pat Cowdell,yes sadly he died in a car crash i think.I'm sure his title tilt agianst Barry Michael from australia was also on a Saturday afternoon

I was at the ally pally when he fought marvis frazier..it was a messy fight as most of banjo fights were,very tall and long he often tied up and tried to make use of his long left hand,that night marvis a small heavyweight just outworked him !
Remember meeting him outside of the school his kids were going to and I used to deliver to as a postman had a great chat for about 10 mins where he mentioned one of his old opponents mick chmilowskyi that he'd recently met up with..lovely fella.. gentle giant !..and was never in love with the game it seemed!

I loved the fights on World of Sport before the wrestling came on at 4, the thing I remember is that they were from some particularly strange venues. I think it was Jimmy Cable on Hastings Pier and some were from the Isle of Man , great days

Pyatt was good, very good. I watched him spar Adrian Dodson/Carew back in the day, which was very interesting stuff.

Remember that fight well,managed to get a cracking seat that night at the Albert Hall from a tout outside!
Rodney started well but pyatt gradually got on top midway through the fight, quite an abrupt stoppage as pyatt turned it on in the 9th cut rodney and as the blood dripped from the cut so did his ambition and got counted out..pyatt was very underrated.

Man this thread has got the old memory jogged. My first ever fight I went to, Bomber Graham v Ayub Kalule at sheffield city hall. I remember Brian Anderson was chief support. Went with my now long departed grandad bless him. Remember on the bus home I was telling him Bomber would beat Hagler!! I was 12 if that is any excuse?! T remember Anderson being on ITVs fight night. Does anyone remember the Fight Night with Jonny Nelson v Brian Schumacher? Think Brian got the nod.
