Who do you think Clinton Woods should defend against first up. Here are the options.

Joe Calzaghe - long standing WBO Super Middleweight champion, looking to move up.

Peter Oboh - World Class fighter who has been looking as good if not better than Woods in recent years - easy fight to make.

Montell Griffin - Should be IBF mandatory, perhaps was worthy of this fight with Woods anyway (most thought he beat Hoye).

A routine defence - As Steve Bunce suggested, a homecoming for Woods without it being too taxing. This is my choice as a first defence with Tony Oakey for me the fight I would make.

Roy Jones - Still a Big money fight and surely winnable.

Johnson vs Tarver II Winner - chance to become number 1 Light Heavy

Johnson vs Tarver II loser - A good fight to establish yourself.

Whoever he wants to he has just won the title a few days ago and should relax and have a holiday before thinking about his next opponent.

fornicate Calzaghe, anyone else will do.

I think oboh would be a really hard fight for him,, hes relentless would be a very good fight and a good win if he pulled it off.

I would go for one routeen one and then maybe a rematch with Johnson may be big money and if he can fight like last night a close an winnable fight. I think at his age woods should look at what will make him most money so rather than Calzageh he should look at the top american fighters.

I`d like to see him give Oboh a chance, sadly I think this may be the hardest of the lot so its unlikely to happen.

But a third Johnson fight would pay well and on last nights showing I`d favour Clinton.

Here's the IBF top 15(before last night obviously) , he could make his routine defence against one of the lesser fighters of this bunch, and fulfil his mandatory obligations at the same time. There's some relativley easy fights amongst these fighters, and it would keep the IBF off his back for a while.

I think it would be the same result, johnson is a lot craftier than Hoye, who came in and retreated in straight lines. johnson is a real hustler, Woods would not have as much time to box at range, nor as much success on the insiede. still be a good fight.

I think woods will do well to squeeze another one in before fighting johnson. Don't think oboh would beat woods, he's good but not that good.

WHy on earth would woods want to fight Oboh

If he fights Joe Calzaghe it will be a massive domestic fight maybe in cardiff arms park or a shefiald clubs home ground pluss sky ppv that is a £2 million pay day for a fight which he could well muscle his way through and win.

Or he could go to the states and fight Tarver/ Jones winner that is a big international fight with HBO that is a £4 million pay day against two fighters who are past their best and he could well beat.

Or he could fight Peter Oboh in the York Hall and make a few hundred grad have a tricky and difficult night against a very under rated opponent and all us boxing fans will congratulate him if he wins for giving Oboh a shot.

A few hundred grand for a fight at the york hall.....dream on, he'd be lucky to get 50k for a fight there, it holds 1200 people.

I don't think he will get 2 million to fight calzaghe, that's the sort of money Tszyu is getting to fight Hatton, well reputedly anyway. A few hundred grand yes, 2 million no. it's not THAT big a fight.

Nor will he get 4 mil to fight Tarver or Johnson, that's serious money that few non heavyweights ever earn for a night's work.

woulndt suprise me if jones did a johnson and woods got a million dollars for a rematch with jones, dpends if HBO pay up or woods want it.

I voted for Johnson vs Tarver II winner, but if I was him I'd go for a routine. It took him long enough to win the bloody thing....

interesting thought, reckon clinton may well become the third man to spark him out if that happens. i think without the superhuman reflexes jones is worse than ordinary. He did absolutely nothing against johnson, nothing.

A routine defence for me, the Tony Oakey idea sounds good like someone else mentioned...an all English battle for a genuine title and both fighters have good support. Can't see Oboh in there he is too dangerous and i really don't see the point of a rematch with Jones although if Roy Jones is serious about carrying on he would consider it a chance to gatecrash the scene again with a genuine title, Tarver well possibly a realistic option but i doubt a third Johnson fight would be made as i am sure the afforementioned Tarver already has a rematch with Johnson firmly on his mind.

I remember Woods-Briggs was being proposed a while ago and Briggs even called Woods out before Woods fought Johnson so if Briggs can dispose of Adamsek and win the WBC crown perhaps they could unify after all

I see Woods vs Oakey as a forgone conclusion, but it would be exciting. Forget the Barney fight (I've already have), Tony is a very exciting fighter - not in Woods' class but it would be exciting.

Kind of like Walker vs Karmazin - a mismatch, but an exciting mismatch.

I'd like to see his first defence against Robin Reid, robin is in need of a title shot and i think it would make a great fight for the british fans.

Ok i cant argue with that but i would have thought with talk of Lacy and Kessler wanting him his immediate future or what is left of it would remain at Super Middle.

Why should Calzaghe get a match against Woods?

Might be a good match, he might even win but I don't think he has done enough to deserve it.

why not robin reid? anyone who saw reid vs calzaghe bout 6 years ago would of thought reid deserved to win, but joe got the points, robin also beat brian magee last week, who joe is fighting soon, also robin reid is HIGHER than woods in the boxrec rankings so what makes you think its a stupid match? Its alot more favourable than a woods - calzaghe match.
