I just started listening to the Scott Quigg interview he done with Tris Dixon. At the start Scott says he was called by Robert Smith from the BBBoC and asked if he was sticking by his decision to retire or planning to fight on. If he was going to fight though he would need a more in-depth brain scan as there were a couple of changes on his last two. Scott said hearing that was what made him retire for good.

So it made me wonder why a fighter can have changes on his scans and still be allowed to fight? It also sounded like the first Scott knew of a change in the scans was when he was told on the phone by Robert Smith which seems bizarre.

Anyone have any knowledge of the process?

The MRI scan isn't an exact science.

Virtually no one fails there first one, only if they see a tumour or something.

From there your first scan is like a template and then they look to see if there are changes.

Realistically with age things gradually change and relicensing is only denied if there is a big change.

Now they don't really know what these changes mean, but a big change is seen as damage.

Brain matter changes with age. I suppose something would need to look "suspicious" ie a bleed, which would appear dark grey or black in a scan, which is contained, to raise the suspicion of the boards doctors to want a more in depth scan. Which would be a scan with contrast. Makes sense.

When I had mine, I wasn't given any results, they were sent to the board, and no news was good news!

Yes agreed but she had an anomaly from her previous visit to UK

The board sanctioning her against Rankine was disgraceful and that's aside from the scan.

If I could scrap the BBBofC, I would appoint a neurologist as head of the BBBofC. All my new refs would have medical training. The judges would all wear noise canceling headphones and adhear to strict guidelines on how to score the fights.

I'd have them as a government sanctioned body so they had more authority. As a glorified charity they are at the mercy of promoters who can either sue them and put them put of business, or feel obliged to others who pay them a large wedge when they are at risk of going out of business.

Completely agree. The officials should be incorruptible and their performance should be monitored. The rules need a complete overhaul and there should be definitive guidelines. First low blow gets a a warning, second final warning, third lose a point, fourth second point, fifth DQ. Bradley Skeet highlighted the inadequacies or the current rules on hitting an opponent when they are down. A totally defenseless guy get hit with two full power shots and the ref asks the semi-concuss Skeet if he's "Alright to continue." He just been slammed really hard in the head, how's he supposed to give you a sensible answer?

What a load of bollocks that Skeete fight was. These refs, I don't think they are conciously siding with the promoter, they think that they are furthering British boxing but ensuring the left hand side of the bill gets every advantage. When in fact, what they are doing is weakening the sport by making it look bent, which drives people away.

Yep. And Robert Smith does absolutely fvck all about it...... again. Honestly, you could take a staff nurse off a ward in a general hospital, give them a days training and they would referee fights better that the officials we have.
