Adam Azim

I just read that Maxwell rejected a career-high payday to fight Azim.

Don’t know how much truth there is to this.

That’s unfortunate as Maxwell would have been a good fight for Azim.

Not sure what Maxwell’s looking to do. He turned down Dalton Smith too. Maxwell/Azim would have been a good fight. Shame.

Azim-Ballingall would be a good next step fight for the English. Then step it up to Ennis-Brown or Kaisee Benjamin (possibly for the British if Dalton vacates), and then go onto European level.

However, I'm anticipating they'll instead be looking at 16-1, 14-0 opponents on the continent with nice padded records who Azim can add to his KO highlight reel. I hope they don't do that, and Ben's mentioned domestic opponents for his prospects in the past, but I'm still a bit sceptical.

When asked about Azim's situation with Boxxer, McGuigan added: "I can't comment on that.

“We are working hard to make sure every move is the right one. There is no shortage of people that want to put money up for him, it’s more just the fact that to get credible opponents and put the money up for him, too, that's the whole point.

“We don't want to just go with someone that's going to give him a load of money up front for him but then we’ve got 45p to pay for an unknown opponent. It doesn’t make any sense.

“He's still a developing star and going to be one of these guys that's going to excel massively with his fights. That's not necessarily just shaking his shoulders out against anyone.

“He’s still super young so we’ve got to look at the projected vision. It’s not a quick-buck scenario. I know in this game you’re not guaranteed tomorrow but we’ve got to try and find the balance.”

Adam Azim signs new promotional deal with BOXXER

World-ranked super lightweight contender Adam Azim has signed a new promotional deal with Ben Shalom's BOXXER, it was announced today.

The duration of the new contract was not revealed in the press release, but it is believed to be long term.

Azim, 13-0 (10), is from Slough, England and considered one of the hottest prospects in the sport. His last fight, in February, saw him impressively break down and stop former world champion Sergey Lipinets in nine rounds. That was the 23-year-old’s fourth straight stoppage win. It was also a sign he is now ready to move on to the next level.

Big signing for Shalom, I imagine others were after him too, I guess he had to put his hand in his pocket.

Dunno if he has lost Simpson, or maybe he has just got him on the Saudi show, which is good news for him if that is the case.

And then he can look to build fighters on the BBC.

I read he had paid Clarke 36 million when he signed him on a 3 year deal, dunno if that is true, it's huge money

Not a popular opinion I suspect but I’m happy with this, I think Boxxer continuing in the sport is a good thing, and it will be good to have boxing
on the BBC. I’m rooting for Ben as he’s so mullered by everyone I back him.

No way did Clarke get 36 million.

Does anybody know how this deal actually works though?

I thought we'd get a bunch of good, low level domestic scraps.

Surely the BBC aren't going to be paying the types of purses needed for world title level fights.

If Azim wants a world title shot, boxxer wont be winning any purse bids.

They'll be on Riyadh season cards.

Already upset turki. Turning down 3 fights then offering up a nobody to fight. Turki turned it down. Surely they won't do him any favours their.

I've never seen a boxing signing announcement for a long term exclusive deal that doesn't include the words "long term" "exclusive" "multi fight" and "multi year", nor mention a broadcast partner.

Those terms are used deliberately and very prominently, to convey the long term exclusive nature of a deal which will encompass multiple fights over time.

The Azim announcement contains none of them.

It does refer to "a new contract" (length unspecified) and "pact", which is an extremely odd word to choose if referring to an exclusive long term deal.
