I really wish I could read a book on Sam Mcvey. I been holding out hope that Clay Moyle would write one but it's been a long wait. I ordered the Joe Jeanette book Boxing's Iron Man as it's the closest i can come. But i am a fan of Clay Moyle (he's awesome). I wish Clay would write on either of these fighters.
I'd love a book on joe walcott the barbados demon. I find this period the most interesting in boxing reading any newspaper accounts in this time period it's the most barbaric bloody gladiator sport of all time. Walcott in general participated in some of the greatest blood sport bouts in history. You really wouldn't believe it unless you read the accounts. He was one of the greatest pound per pound fighters whom ever lived.
If anyone had any books i somehow missed on these two fellows please inform me.
I've read many many many newspaper accounts of all these early fighters. Looking at someone's record on Boxrec. You'd have no idea the level of gladiator's some of these guy's were such of Denver Ed Smith & Joe Goddard and George Godfrey looking at the record you think oh they were alright. Reading a fight account these guy's were almost super human. It was nothing like the early 1900's style of fighting. Any read of the newspaper account of the Jim Corbett & Joe Choynski fight you would know the incredible blood sport that boxing was back in the day. The bout's would end with the real threat that a person was going to die...Spoiler alert the Great Choynski was unrecognizable because of the simple error of choosing the wrong gloves. Or the great Frank Slavin deciding to poison his opponent before the fight with Harry Laing. The tales are the best in this era I do believe.
