DAZN more than doubles monthly cost for monthly subscribers to £19.99

The carrot is Anthony Joshua's first fight not being on PPV, but the stick is that they are doing what they did in the US and locking you into a 12 month plan for £100 a year or £120 a year (via instalments), or alternatively you have to pay £19.99 per month.

Did not see that coming at this point.

Can't see that going well. Not sure many people would pay for AJ-Franklin anyway. Haven't had DAZN since April and by the looks of this I don't intend to rejoin.

Subbing for a one off month to watch one decent fight is gonna be like paying PPV then at £19.99..

It's £9.99 per month for a year or £99.99 upfront for the full year. The £19.99 is for a single month on its own. They're just repackaging PPV

I liked how I could subscribe/unsubscribe depending on whether I wanted to watch anything that month but I’m not paying more than double for the privilege. I’m also wary of tying myself into a 12 month deal as we’ve already seen DAZN happily not show a single second of boxing during a month and not reimburse subscribers.

So it’s basically the combined price of Netflix + Amazon Prime if you want to keep DAZN monthly? Game changed indeed.

Eddie claiming this isn’t PPV. His credibility is fading fast.

Are people that arsed about watching AJ's next fight? Can't see this going well really. If they have a great fight on £20 as a one off won't be too bad now and again but not for this.

Good grief!

I bailed out when they ramped it up to £7.99/month, there's not a chance on Earth I'd pay £19.99 and definitely not to watch Joshua feast on Dillian Whyte's leftovers.

How sneaky is that?

Hearn telling the world that it's not PPV whilst DAZN increase the subscription price for the month of the fight is up there with Dominic Cummings trip to Barnard Castle to test his eyesight.

These guys should be in the Conservative party.

It explains why they waited to get everything lined up before announcing the shows now as they wanted it all to go out at the same time as the change in payment model.

It’s similar to how DAZN works in the US.

As an existing subscriber I’m pretty relaxed as I’ll pay the £100 for the year so essentially costs £8.30/month of content. If we got the same volume of shows and level of shows as 2022 then I’d be fine with that as it’s pretty good value to me given I watch all the shows of Matchroom and Golden Boy.

I get why people aren’t happy about the £19.99 per month but I wouldn’t ever think about subbing to DAZN like that as it’s not worth £20 a month. But, assuming we get 40+ shows this year, I think it’s almost certainly worth £100 to me.

I can’t see many casuals paying £20/month or £100 a year for it though so who knows if it’ll be the right call for them.

The thinking has to be about keeping the Youtube fight fans and making money off them.

Matchroom USA is really just a vehicle for Canelo at the moment and some womens fights but US subscribers get the Golden Boy stuff at peak time too.

They will really struggle to get Matchroom UK profitable which is why you see NxtGen stuff starting to be put forward as an offering.

The Jan to May line up would have been very solid SkySports stuff but for UK boxing fans who pay to watch football, its just a mile away from the promises of June 2021.

And when they try and do AJ v Dillian Whyte as PPV as they must the shit will hit the fan.....

Not a chance anyone outside of the hardcore is paying 20 quid a month to watch Wood vs Lara and Callum Smith vs a nobody.

If they try and charge PPV for a fight in the near future they’re fully taking the biscuit.

£100 is £8.33 per month which is 34p more than current cost. What a bunch of wining children.

His credibility disappeared over the Connor Benn debacle when he was caught lying and contradicting himself every day for a week.

Yeah - that was my thinking too re: the YouTubers. I’d imagine they try and get another KSI fight locked and loaded fairly quickly.

They’ll have a big decision to make re: the Whyte fight. Tricky to do a PPV at £25 for the casuals who’d also either have to pay £100 for a year or £20 for a month on top.

Some people don’t have the £100 spare in one go.

Yeh. They probably make their cards a little thinner and give prospects their own cards.

Why would anyone ever pay £100 in advance to an incredibly niche online-only streaming service that might not even survive the year and has gone full months without any new content? Honestly mind-boggling.

For the same reason I’d have done the same if it worked out cheaper to pay in advance for allegedly in the early years.

I don’t see it folding inside of 12 months and I’m pretty sure I’ll get value for the £100.

Why such a difference in the £8.33 to the £9.99 to the £19.99..
