Valuev was a circus tallman, a cash cow for his promoters, since the casual German crowd seemed happy to watch such freak "fighting" in the ring. That's why he was matched so carefully and got a row of disputable decisions, against Bidenko, Larry Donald, Ruiz X2, Holyfield. Even in his clear losses against Chagaev and Haye the cards were unfairly close.

Chambers had tools to outbox Valuev. His handspeed was much higher, he had a decent defence and countering abilities. He lacked movement, which would be very useful against Valuev, who was outclassed by the agile Chagaev and Haye, but still Chambers could deal with Valuev's slow pawing and counter it precisely.

Objectively, Chambers should have won 116-112 or 117-111.

chambers was the better fighter. he was small but had nice hand speed and reflexes, a bit like chris bryd. problem for him was he could be lazy in the ring. this fight realistically prob wouldve happened in germany, where that would prob bite him on the cards. chambers would do the good scoring but valuev would prob keep pawing away with low quality blocked shots and win close on the cards where everyone else thought eddie won

Like others have rightly said.....a fight in Germany results in a Valuev win and especially because Chambers lacks the guns to win some rounds 10-8 and any nip-and-tuck stuff that should be a shared round goes to the Bank of Valuev.

Do the thing somewhere else though and I reckon Chambers has a chance.

Personally I'd love to seen have Hide have a go at Valuev; Hide could crack, was quick and if he actuallly showed a bit of patience he'd have seen off the Russian.

Personally I liked the Russian Giant even though it was clear that he wasn't as good or great as the legitimate top five in the world. I think because of his size it gave the impression that he was doing more in the ring than he actually was which made the fights harder to score and he did have a pretty good jab. He was certainly a top 10 heavyweight without question considering he stopped Monte Barrett, but I always felt that he got the heavyweight title because people were tired of John Ruiz more than anything else.

The only time I ever really complained about Valuev was when it was so obvious that Evander Holyfield had beaten him and yet he got the decision which robbed Evander of being heavyweight champion for a fifth time. I remember many of us on the forum sending emails to the WBA demanding that the decision be overturned but of course it never happened.

The irony for me is that Valuev would lose the title to David Haye and I honestly thought that David Haye did far less than Evander Holyfield did. So here you had the Russian giant winning the title because people were tired of John Ruiz and ultimately the Russian giant lost the title to David Haye because essentially people got tired of Valuev.

I still hate that a match with Vitali Klitschko never did take place even though it was talked about for quite a while. I have very little doubt that the elder Klitschko brother would have won but it would have been interesting to have seen how well he would have competed against somebody who was bigger than himself.

As for Eddie Chambers he would have went the distance with the Russian Giant but how well he would have actually performed I have no real clue. Chambers was pretty small for a heavyweight even smaller than David Haye if I'm not mistaken. I suspect the fight in reality might have been a victory for Chambers or a draw but the decision would have went to Valuev by split or majority decision--- and it's not so much because of him fighting in places like Germany or Switzerland as much as it is that the man could take two steps and be literally across the ring so everything he did looked more than what it really was.
