I was speaking to a friend earlier who’s not a die hard boxing but I’d say is more than a casual boxing. He was complaining about how poor boxing on Sky has got compared to 4/5 years ago.

I was thinking about it and for the first 12 weeks this year I.E. up to the week before the Okolie show, there’s just 1 UK show on Sky Sports which is this weekend’s Azim show that is more of NextGen.

Has there even be so little U.K. boxing on Sky Sports before?

I know they did the Eubank/Smith PPV which was a good fight but nothing particularly good for a PPV (I still bought it though).

Are we missing Adam Smith getting things facilitated in the background?

Seems ok to me.

No one really subs to Sky Sports for boxing.

Think of Boxing as a bonus.

Boxxer seems to get things going.

Maybe it feels like a lighter schedule because there aren’t really many Big names with Boxxer.

Not well established names apart from a select few.

Boxing is split over 3 channels now so it's not a fair comparison to when it was just on Sky

It was never just on Sky in the last 10 years. Frank was doing shows on allegedly and then BT.

Sky started 2022 on fire with Eubank/Williams and Taylor/Catterall on regular Sky Sports and a big PPv in Brook/Eubank.

Just feels a big come down this year so far.

Frank’s stepped things up on BT with Yarde/Beterbiev and Joyce/Zhang announced on regular BT with a couple of other shows too.

I've touched on this before, they're spent out getting the names they have, hence shows concentrating on building those fighters and any fight they think they can get away with putting it on PPV.

Listening to Shalom earlier he mentioned one more signing but pretty much confirmed they have enough in their stable now. Gives you an idea what to expect going forward.

Yeah - I listened to a couple of bits from him earlier too. Worryingly he said fans had been demanding Frazer Clarke’s fight against Rydell Booker.

I wonder if Ben was expecting more money from Sky. Hence his comments to Billy Joe the other week.

We went from an era in the 2000s where we had loads of shows. A lot were poor quality but we had British or Commonwealth title fights all the time with some big shows from Frank. Some weekends we got shows on the Friday and Saturday nights.

Then we had the Matchroom era where it felt like decent arena shows every couple of weeks.

Now we’ve got a time I think where we don’t have many shows and the quality isn’t particularly good either it feels. Even compared to a year ago.

I agree. Its much weaker. Last year was ok overall and theyll get going. Its still early for a stable that was built from scratch and I personally think theyve got a much better chance of building stars than DAZN do.

It’s still the best platform by a mile for building a star. DAZN, if it continues to just offer the sports it currently does, won’t be able to make stars and I’m not sure BT has the same ability as Sky to do it.

I just don’t ever remember a time where I’ve been less interested in boxing on Sky. Boxxer are 18 months in now so have had time and I think their start was actually really encouraging.

Perhaps they’ll look to hoover up some of the Probellum stable.

I think the UK gets far more boxing on Sky. There hasn't been a non PPV fight on Sky downunder since October!
I quit them last month. What with the snooker, moto gp gone and virtually no boxing it wasn't worth the extra money any more.

Frank W getting the Sky deal would have been the best outcome.

Ben Shalom is useless.
