My problem or issue with most of these "fighters" from this era is that they were sold to the public as being legitimate full contact athletes when in reality they were point fighting (no contact strikes).

Some did have experience in full contact contests with mixed success but it was largely the stigma or aura of "martial artist," when that still had a mystical sense about it, that carried them over the years as being something more than they was.

However I do tend to agree with Vic Moore on at least one premise, and that's that Bruce Lee was not a legitimate fighter and he most likely would've lost matches to Chuck Norris and others.

"Joe Lewis" transitioned from that "Bursty Feisty point fighting/middle-school hallway" looking fighting stuff, onto legit full contact karate fighting, which was in essence the pre-cursor to the 1980's Kickboxing days. I still remember "Pka Full contact Karate", on ESPN back in the early 1980's. Pretty sure that even guys like "Benny Uridiquez" and "Don Wilson" started out with that subtle point fighting stuff, before evolving into the Harder Core Formats of competitive martial arts fighting.
Joe Lewis vs Bill Wallace was a nice exhibition kickboxing bout. They were 45 and 46 years old in that 1990 bout.

I love watching benny urquidez, bill Wallace, Don Wilson and joe Lewis fights. They could all wrestle too. It’s made out Bruce bloody lee (the actor) invented cross training but they were all at it back then.
