I know there is a Death List thread on off topic - but I think those of a certain vintage would like to pay tribute to Dickie Davies the face of ITV boxing for so many years - a real master of his trade.

Ironically, I've been watching ITV's review of 1987 and 1988 Boxing which is in great condition on youtube. Its just how boxing should be presented IMO.

It's amazing how many decent fights they had either live or taped on World of Sport until they took it off air in 1985. I loved the allegedly shows they used to show live as part of it as well the racing, wrestling and On the Ball. Great time to be growing up .

Does anyone else remember the now prescient tune, by the Scouse songsmiths Half Man Half Biscuit, titled "Dickie Davies Dies"?

RIP Dickie Davies, a great presenter and agree with other posters that World of Sports and Midweek Sports Special were great in the 80s particularly for boxing

Sad news. DD was a real pro who didn't get into broadcasting until the relatively late age of 32.

Proper presenters in those days. Spoke properly and had great knowledge of all sports.

They'd have a laddette woman doing it now. All fake mockney accent.

I always preffered ITV boxing to BBC. Seemed a bit more relaxed.

Great memories as a kid watching world of sport, straight after Saint and Greavsie

Dickie Davies and the days when you could watch the likes of Larry Holmes and Marvin Hagler defending their titles on a Saturday lunchtime

Yes the great man deserves his own thread.

The best sports presenter I've ever seen/heard. Total pro, the likes of him and Des Lynam, show how spoilt we were compared to the naff presenters of today.
