Veit has improved quite a bit since the first fight -- hopefully it'll be enough to (legitimately) end the Calzaghe train.

Viet HAS NOT improved. No way, ive seen him may times on Eurosport since. Brewer was totally shot, almost as bad as Juuko. Same kind of wooden look to his legs.

Well, despite your detailed and extensive analysis supporting your side of the argument I fear you have afailed to change my mind. What I do know about you however, is that most people on this board seem to disagree with you and your opinions most of the time, so I wont worry too much about your lucid and thought provoking response.

What pisses me off is the constant talk of "career defining fights", that Calzaghe keeps whinging about. If he doesn´t actually want one the he should´nt say he does. Going public to call out Hopkins, who he knows will never bother to face him and pulling out of the Johnson fight??? Wot a piss take.... he wouldn´t travel to Germany to fight Ottke to unify the division (for what probably would have been more money than he will get for Veit), but he´ll travel to make an utterly meaningless defense of his leather strap which won´t get him any respect or earn him the chance of a career defining fight.
If he is just in it for the money and is not bothered about landing the big fights then fine! Well done to him. But if thats the case, then he should stop talking crap about wanting "career defining fights" against the big names because its an insult to all his supporters who´ve put bums on seats and money in his `pocket all these years.
And for him to say that people are running scared of him is a complete load of crap. He doesn´t push for the big fights so he´s never gonna get them. Put up or shut up!!

They wouldn't have offered me, because I'd have already vacated the Warren's Bum Organisation title in search of real fights which would make me more money in the long term.

I just think its a no brainer for him, pays off the divorce and gives him a pension plan.

I would much rather he stepped up and fought Woods/Tarver/Johnson or went to the US to fight Lacey (and lets face it he should have fought on Showtimes 3-4 years ago when he looked like he really could have achieved things with his career), but it is an incredible payday for an easy nights work. He wouldn't get anywhere near that amount for any of the megafights.

Sadly, Joe has all the talent in the world, but not the desire to go with it it appears. Since beating Eubank, which was an excellent performance even though Eubank was dissipated, Calzahge has done plenty of talking about getting the big fights, but sweet FA about actually making them happen. He appears to have missed the boat big time with Johnson, and now after turning down Clinton Woods is looking for what he thinks will be an easy route to another title. I think the end of Joe's career is desinted to be a dissapointment, I think Calzaghe is totally content with his level of achievement, and if he can say 'two weight world champion' even though he won that title from probably the weakest champion in the division.

The reason that Calzaghe draws so much flak, is that he had the potential to be something that bit special. Had he had the desire that Nigel Benn had, I think he would be a lot more fondly remembered when he retires, because Calzaghe could have achieved a hell of a lot more than he already has. The bigger the talent, the higher the expectations and the bigger the potential for dissapointment.

Again I have to agree. I know I am not the only big Nigel Benn fan on this forum and I admit he may not have been the best Super-Middleweight in the world when he was fighting but you could never doubt the mans fighting heart and determination. Also unlike Calzaghe he was allways value for money.

On the bright side he is leaving Great Briton (yes for the second time) so he may not get every desision his own way. However he is not steping up and not taking much of a risk. I would love to see a british fighter out in america taking on Jeff Lacy for a proper world title (the WBO is boarderline respectible) or stepping up to take on Glen Johnson to be recognised as legitimate No. 1 light heavy. Unfortunoutely judging by the lack of spine we have seen it looks like Im going to have to wait for Froch to get a few more fight befor there is a risk of ever of those things happening.

Did anyone else ntice that in his "Fwankly Speaking" collumn Warren forgot to mention Clinton Woods won a real world title insted choosing to talk about the rocky films.

Lirva serves a good purpose on this board because he the only Brit that keeps U honest.
