Amir Khan is BANNED from all sport for two years over doping rule break he's kept quiet on for 12 months, after he tested positive for a bodybuilding drug when he fought Kell Brook

Amir Khan has been banned from sport for two years after a doping rule break
Khan tested positive for ostarine after his fight with Kell Brook in February 2022
The 36-year-old claimed his ingestion of the banned drug was not 'intentional'

Amir Khan has been banned from all sport for two years following anti-doping rule violations for the presence and use of a prohibited substance.

A urine sample collected by UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) from the 36-year-old after his fight against Kell Brook in February 2022 contained an Adverse Analytical Finding for ostarine.

UKAD notified Khan of this on April 6 2022 and issued him with a provisional suspension, meaning he has known about this for 12 months.

On July 20 2022, they then charged the boxer with two Anti-Doping Rule Violations for the presence and use of a prohibited substance.

Khan accepted the violations but maintained his 'ingestion of ostarine was not "intentional"'.

This meant the case was referred to the National Anti-Doping Panel and was considered by an independent tribunal which heard the case on January 24 2023.

In the written decision it came to dated 21 February 2023, the independent panel found him to be guilty of both violations, but concluded Khan had not established the use of the banned substance was 'intentional' within Anti-Doping rules.

In a statement, UKAD said: 'Professional boxer and Olympic medallist Amir Khan has been banned from all sport for two years following Anti-Doping Rule Violations for the presence and use of a Prohibited substance.'

Ostarine MK-2866, also known as ostarine or enobosarm, is a selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM) that is popular among bodybuilders and athletes for its ability to build muscle mass and increase strength with minimal side effects.

What sets Ostarine MK-2866 apart from other SARMs is its unique ability to promote both muscle growth and bone health.

In a clinical trial, Ostarine MK-2866 was shown to increase lean body mass in healthy men while simultaneously reducing fat mass.

--------------
WHAT IS OSTARINE?

Ostarine is a Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator (SARM) - a type of therapeutic compound used for stimulating tissue growth like muscle and bone.

The substance is not approved for human consumption in any country and is prohibited at all times in sport by WADA.

There have been a rising number of positive tests involved ostarine and other SARMs in recent years, with athletes likely to obtain the substance from black market channels.

Ostarine can be found in other products - but only illegal ones, and a doctor will never prescribe a treatment or medication that contains it.

Some dietary supplements can contain SARMs such as ostarine and are sold as 'legal steroids' or 'research only' chemicals, according to USADA.

There is interest in ostarine to treat a number of muscle-wasting diseases, including cancer, osteoporosis and hypogonadism.

He didn’t mention that to Richard Madeley on Good Morning Britain earlier!

Khan was very strange in fight week.

Had cupping done a day before the fight, then claims he had an injured shoulder I think it was after the bout.

How come it was kept quiet?

A positive, He's not denying the drug.. but said it wasn't intentional.

Where can this drug be found?

Another reason as to accepting the ban, is cus he's happily retired.

Was he on today?

He spoke about being 'picky' about going out and the gun incident?

Critical bit of the UKAD judgment is that they have found the usage was unintentional, which is why the ban is two years rather than four. Judgment is at https://www.ukad.org.uk/sites/default/f ... 20Khan.pdf

I was wondering the same.

UKAD findings was April 2022.. It should have come out..

Maybe Khan paid for it to be hushed? He took it to tribunal or something..

Not really a surprise. Khan was doping for years under Roach with Ariza as his ‘S & C’ coach. Couldn’t hold a shot before or after Ariza but whilst with him he could have 12 round wars.

Interesting how Khan kept saying he was going to fight on after losing to Brook & then all of a sudden changed his mind & retired. It’s probably for the best he did test positive & retired or he would’ve been fed to Conor Benn or someone like that.

So he worked with Ariza under Roach, Conte under Hunter & then tested positive whilst with Crawford’s coach (not sure who his S & C man was at this point). Everything he achieved in his career should have an asterisk at the side of it. Very suspicious

That's down to the GBP referee pulling Maidana off him all night.

Maidana thought the ref was gonna punch him too at one point.

I think there was a post-fight changing room video where the whole team were kicking off about their unfair treatment.

It was Khan's best performance v Maidana. Dropped him and hung on for grim death at the end but fair fucks to him, Maidana was a really good fighter.

What's the point in banning a guy who is retired, over a year after he failed the test?

Even before Khan was officially retired, he was semi retired and a two year ban would have made no difference, as he used to fight about once every two years anyway.

Good grief, they could have got Glaxo Smith Kline to sponsor that contest.

Khan would have entered the ring with two heads and Benn would have entered the ring pregnant!

None of that is true. All of the information is in the link with the judgment, posted above. Khan was notified of the adverse finding in April 2022. There was then a process to go through, and Tribunals move slowly. In September 2022 Khan was asked to provide his defence. He then submitted witness statements in November. UKAD issued the judgment on 21 February, so only query is why it took a few weeks for it to be published.
