Gatti v Mayweather fight has been agreed for 25th june, so bad news for Witter , he might get a spot on the undercard i suppose.

Looks like Gatti's threats of pulling the fight earlier in the week, really did the trick in getting Mayweather to sign pronto. Good work Arturo!!

And to think many people actually thought that Gatti was choking at the idea of such a fight...

It's the other way around mate, read Mike Katz' column at max.

Gatti was never going to scared of Mayweather, but his handlers were trying to get the best price available.

I'd love Gatti to win but Mayweather performs so well in big fights you've got to favour him. Arturo has a better chance than he would have had at 130 though, where Mayweather was nothing short of legendary.

it always pisses me off when you hear speculation that so and so is scared of fighting someone...

Boxers at that level are not scared of anyone, they think they are the best in the world and believe it.....

its all about risk and return scenario and the management

I really hope Gatti puts a beating on this young punk but cant see it happening. Mayweather calls Gatti a 'dead man' and 'scared' and next thing we know the fight is back on. lol. Saying that to one of the toughest boxers around had to hit a nerve with Gatti

I really think Floyd is going to outclass Gatti - they're different leagues.

BTW, not a big fan of Floyd as a person ( who is these days? ) but he gets stick for saying Gatti is a dead man, but didn't Gatti say much the same about Leija before their fight?

Good idea why not, lets see Branco V's Witter on the undercard, winner then is the mandatory challenger (wouldn't suprise me if this is the case)

Yeah i could see that happening, Don't see how Branco is still rated above Witter at the moment though, Branco was the one to pull out of a fight with Witter, he should have got demoted in the rankings.

The other scenario that i see happening, is the winner of Gatti v Mayweather fighting the winner os Tszyu v Hatton.
Its the only big one that they can do next i think.

Cotto will probably fight the winner of Gatti v Mayweather. Kostya will move up to welterweight once he's dealt with Hatton.

At some point in the fight, Gatti is going to give Floyd a little chin-check, and that's where it get's interesting. Gatti's power is no joke, and with his improved boxing brain, he delivers it better.

Floyd isn't anything like a true LW, and it could show, I wouldn't consider it a big upset if Gatti won by a stoppage. People seem forget about the Castillo performance when Floyd was suddenly made to look ordinary, and that was at lightweight....nobody is unbeatable, nobody.

You can bet your ass that Roach will figure out some flaws, and I think Gatti is smart enough to act on them. It's not like Floyd can afford to drag him into a street fight, which is what normally takes Gatti out of his game plan.

I'm looking forward to this, because I don't think it's anywhere near the uneven playing field everyone else does.

James, who is "Roach"? I thought the brains behind Gatti was Buddy McGirt?

Personally i'd be surprised if Floyd doesnt do a similar job to what Hamed did on Robinson a few years ago...AKA a master class in ringmanship.

'roach' is my nickname for McGirt.......

sorry I get confused with who is training who sometimes....

You've got to look at how superior Mayweather was as a super-featherweight, have the goal posts really narrowed that much 2 weights up? Many (mistakenly, IMO) believe Hatton would be too fresh and relentless for Gatti, but a master boxer like Floyd Mayweather is going to have the fight of his life? I know it's all about styles but I can't see Mayweather walking onto anything from Gatti.

Also it was interesting to see who DeMarcus Corley picked as his best opponent to date, and it wasn't the legit 140 pounders Judah or Cotto.

Floyd will be probably significantly outweighed come fight night. Gatti will be big at the weight, Floyd won't. It can make a huge amount of difference when you actually get hit.

It doesnt matter how much Gatti outweighs Mayweather if he doesnt get near him.

Remember Roy Jones against John Ruiz? Jesus, Ruiz had a massive weight advantage over Jones, but like Mayweather, Jones knew how to use every square inch of that boxing ring to his advantage.

I don't think the gulf in ability is anywhere near as large though. Ruiz fights in a division where boxing skill is virtually redundant, and where skilfull fighters are the exception that prove the rule.

To compare the ability of Gatti with Ruiz would be unfair.

But Floyd is a fighter who doesnt get involved (he doesnt do toe-to-toe punchouts), he largely boxes on the outside and when pushed back is amazing at working with his back against the ropes. I just cant see weight being an advantage - other than giving Gatti the upperhand in power - in which case I cant see him landing it anyway. Hence my comparison to Jones and Ruiz...we knew Ruiz had the power to hurt Jones, thing is power is no good if you cant land and personally I reckon Gatti wont be able to.

How come he had such a hard time with Castillo in their 1st fight then? I've not yet seen it sadly, but most of the American contacts I spoke to thought Castillo was jobbed and deserved at least a draw.

I'm not saying Gatti will win, I just think that Mayweather has little or no form at LW, and it's a bit soon to be making him such a big favourite.

Everyone says how much more of a boxer Gatti is now, but i can't see him outboxing Mayweather, he needs to revert to type and go on a seek and destroy mission.

The main thing for me is can Gatti take Mayweathers power? If he can at some stage Gatti is going to connect and connect hard.

If Mayweather can hurt Gatti early the fight is over, Mayweather could just come out on-form, and outbox and outpunch Gatti for a mid round stoppage.

Jesus, Mayweather is levels above Gatti. This is a guaranteed win.

James also predicted Williams to beat Klitschko (when I told him Williams would get blasted, he calls me stupid) and is predicting Hatton to beat Tszyu and now this?

You stupid bastard, Where on earth did you see me predict Hatton to beat Tszyu? I also picked Hopkins to beat Eastman. I can guarantee you come fight time, I will be backing Tszyu to retain his title, unless I hear of some remarkable inside information to convince me otherwise.

Big deal, I got one prediction wrong, oh mercy me!

Oh and show me where I said you were stupid for saying Klitchsko would blast williams. If I called you stupid there are many other reasons than that.

I've watched Mayweather v Castillo a couple of times, it was a close fight but Mayweather deserved the verdict IMO.
A few of the rounds were close, and most of the crowd were cheering for Castillo, so i think that could have swayed the observers, plus Castillo put in a good performance and Mayweather wasn't at his best.

but goes to show how good Mayweather is , even in a poor performance he beats someone like Castillo.

Maybe the American writers I spoke to at max favoured Castillo because he was coming forward, I know American fight fans and writers generally do.
