Thomas either outbox Moore behind his great left jabs and right hands to take a decision or late round stoppage.

Did Archie ever prove his mettle against first-rate, big heavyweights, meaning proven contenders over 6"3" and 215 lbs? I don't think he did.

Moore did defeat Nino Valdez, who weighed 208 lbs. But seriously, what does this tell us? I'm not sure Valdez was as good as the best guys of the 1980s.

My guess is Pinklon beats Moore. I'm making a leap of faith, not basing my judgment on tactical analysis. I just think that, for Moore, this fight is biting off too much to chew. Size makes the difference, IMO.

It probably goes the distance. Moore's vast experience, incomparable tactical repertoire, and punching power keep him out of trouble. But Thomas otherwise is in control.

Valdez was 6'3" and had a career high 244 weight in 1959 against Charlie Powell. I suspect that was his walking around weight considering he fought somewhere around 210 pounds. So I think he was bigger than people assume.

Bob Baker was 6'2" and had a career high weight in 1952 of 229 pounds, and when he fought Archie he was 227. So another big heavyweight from the era in top contention. Both he and Valdez fought in heavyweight title eliminators.

So what's your pick between Thomas and Moore?
