KSI and Tommy Fury are now closing in on a deal to fight later this year, representatives from both camps have confirmed.
Following his victory over Jake Paul earlier this year, Fury was ringside to watch KSI’s knockout win over Joe Fournier last month (which was later overturned to a no decision).
Despite the controversy over the elbow KO in that fight, KSI and Fury faced off in the ring immediately afterwards and made clear their intentions to meet next.
Since then, talks have been ongoing between the parties to stage the clash later this year.
Tommy’s father John Fury has been in negotiations with KSI’s promotional representatives the Sauerland brothers, as well as his manager Mams Taylor.
Giving an update on Wednesday, Fury Sr told Seconds Out: “Well, we’re nearly over the line with that one I think.
“Me and the Sauerlands, we’re nearly over the line with it. I think it’ll be announced very shortly.
“Until it’s signed off, nothing’s done, is it? But I’m happy, we’re nearly there. We’ll hopefully get it on this year with him and KSI.”
A few hours later, in an interview on his promotional company Misfits Boxing’s YouTube channel, KSI confirmed John Fury’s comments.
“I am training for that fight,” he said, “Negotiations are going back and forth, we’re just waiting on Tommy essentially.
“We’ve just gotta do a few things to make sure it’s all perfect, but it’s very, very close.
“I’m training, I’m getting ready for that fight, that’s what I want.
“Because I know as soon as I beat Tommy Fury, Jake Paul’s whole career, his whole legacy’s in the bin, and I will be laughing.”
KSI’s manager Mams Taylor added: “We’ve gone back and forth and negotiated and now we’ve agreed to all the changes that they’ve requested.
“I don’t think there’s anything more other than for the ink to dry for both guys to make this happen.”
Taylor also confirmed on social media that neither money, nor weight, nor number of rounds are holding up the fight, which will be an eight-rounder.
KSI then discussed his current training as he concluded: “I’m working on certain techniques, certain ways to beat him,” he said.
“And yeah, making sure I stay fit and strong…
“I just didn’t see the power from Jake, he landed a couple of overhand rights and it just seemed like it didn’t faze Tommy.
“Whereas I know as soon as I do that, if I land just one I know I’m knocking him out.
“It’s a different ball game between me and Jake and I’m excited to show the world that I’m a different specimen.”

I don’t know who ksi is, but fair play for Tommy for maximising his earning potential. That is all.

I think it's fair to say, Tommy won't go back to the real pro boxing stuff.. He made millions against Jake Paul, he's not gonna drop back to Area level for grands..
I'm ok with this for Tommy, as long as it's a pro fight.

Stylistically, this reminds me a lot of Duran vs Barkley.
The slicker, all round skills of Tommy (Duran) against the cruder, more power based style of KSI (Barkley). However, unlike Duran vs Barkley, I suspect that, if a knockdown happens, it'll be Tommy Duran who hits the deck.

He will probably be around the Carl Froch level of earnings in his next few fights....

Duran was far from crude. I would never use that word to describe his style even in comparison to others

I didn't, read again. I described Duran as slick with all round skills. It was Barkley I described as 'cruder'.

I’m not sure I agree with that. He’s piggybacking on being Tyson’s brother and bastardising the sport we all love to earn money that decent pros with more talent and work ethic than him can only dream of.
I get that this is how capitalism works and you get what you negotiate but it leaves a bit of a sour taste in the mouth especially with his “I’m a real boxer, boxing’s been my whole life since I was a nipper” spiel

He should be able to win this. These Youtubers are miles apart from a guy like Tommy Fury. But, KSI is considered by some to be just as good or slightly better than Jake Paul. I'm not of that view, but Fury needs to take it all seriously. I have feeling that he sees it all as easy money against easy opponents, instead of as an opportunity to demonstrate his skills, and that kind of attitude might get him in trouble at some point when the YouTuber gets through with a shot.

well to be fair to the guy, he HAS trained his whole life and has fought in a pro ring, so he is a 'real' boxer. thats not to say hes any good obv.
I think the frustration is misplaced. its the system/society thats fucked. I cant blame tommy for taking advantage. If (as a society) we have decided to replace standards/achievements/love with the narcissism that social media encourages, we can expect nothing less.

Did you actually just compare Tommy Fury to Roberto Duran

They will be wearing boxing gloves. They have that much in common.

This makes far more money for DAZN outside Canelo and the heavyweights
