Rudy Giuliani Sued by Former Lawyers for $1.4 Million in Unpaid Legal Fees After Georgia Indictment



The lawsuit, which was filed on Monday in Manhattan state court, claimed that Giuliani owes the law firm Davidoff Hutcher & Citron approximately $1.4 million under a retainer agreement.


Giuliani allegedly agreed to pay more than $1.5 million to the firm but has only paid $214,000 to date.

The complaint also stated that Giuliani made a token payment of $10,000 earlier this month, leaving a remaining balance of $1,360,196 still owed to the firm.

Robert Costello, a partner at the Davidoff firm and a longtime friend and lawyer to Giuliani, is also a plaintiff in the lawsuit, according to Business Insider.

Costello represented Giuliani from 2019 until this past summer and advised Giuliani on a range of legal matters – including federal investigations into the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, attempts to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia, and numerous civil lawsuits.


Meanwhile, Giuliani's financial woes have reportedly mounted in recent months.

The Republican attacks on fact-checkers come as increasing numbers of Americans reject Republican policies on everything from gutting Social Security to banning abortion to making it harder for city-dwellers to vote: the new Trumpy GOP has decided that abandoning that whole pesky idea of democracy itself is the way to go.


We see this in Ohio, where the Republican Secretary of State has re-written the description of an abortion-rights ballot measure to confuse voters after losing an attempt to prevent it from showing up on the ballot altogether failed.

We also see it in:
— Alabama, ignoring the US Supreme Court’s order to strip out the white supremacy from their electoral maps.

— North Carolina, where Republicans flipped their Supreme Court to overrule its own previous decision to prevent racial gerrymanders benefiting Republicans.

— Wisconsin where Republicans are trying to impeach a Democratic Supreme Court justice because she opposes their gerrymandered maps.

— Ohio’s gerrymandering, with Republicans ignoring their own GOP-controlled Supreme Court.

— Florida, where DeSantis and Republicans passed a permitless gun-carry bill opposed by 77 percent of Floridians and now allow the state to take trans kids away from their families.

— Tennessee, where Republicans kicked three Democrats out of office for daring to fight for abortion and civil rights.

— Red states across the country that have passed laws blocking tens of millions of mostly-city-dwelling American citizens from voting and continue to purge other tens of millions from the voter rolls just before elections.

This is where the lies come in, with Republican politicians routinely lying about everything from Democratic positions on abortion (falsely saying “Democrats support abortion up until the moment of birth and even, horrifically, after that”) to climate change to Ukraine to Republican plans to end or privatize Social Security to crimes committed by Donald Trump.

And that doesn’t begin to count the lies they tell about individual Democrats and the policies they support. As Justin Higgins, a former policy adviser for House Republican Tim Huelskamp of Kansas, told Aaron Rupar:

“You can basically make up your own reality in right-wing media.”

And Jim Jordan wants to keep it that way. The Republican Chair of the House Judiciary and “Weaponization of Government” committees is using his power to harass and intimidate fact-checking organizations at every level.

“Academics and government scientists say the [Jordan] campaign also is successfully throttling the years-long effort to study online falsehoods, which grew after Russian attempts to interfere in the 2016 election caught both social media sites and politicians unaware.”

Republican-aligned social media oligarchs are jumping on the bandwagon. The Washington Post report notes that:

“…12 major media accounts from Russia, China and Iran saw the number of likes and reposts on X nearly double after Musk removed labels calling them government-affiliated.”

Those Russian and Chinese sites have been major sources of lies and disinformation trashing Democrats and democracy while supporting Republican politicians, including Donald Trump. Oligarchic and authoritarian nations, after all, would much rather have America turn into a full-blown strongman state than remain a thorn in their side with all our talk about democracy and human rights.

Musk has also sued the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), alleging the group has engaged in a “scare campaign to drive away advertisers” and is using information technically not their own to identify falsehoods on the Twitter/X platform. Jordan then jumped into the action, accusing the group of taking federal funds that it insists don’t exist.

As The Washington Post noted:

“X also alleged, without offering evidence for its claims, that the CCDH operations were ‘activist organizations masquerading as research agencies, funded and supported by unknown organizations, individuals and potentially even foreign governments with ties to legacy media companies.’”

Republican-controlled appeals courts have even successfully blocked the Biden administration from telling social media companies and other news outlets when they’ve discovered foreign disinformation campaigns promoting lies that are destructive to American public health or our democracy.

Rightwing “news” outlets from Alex Jones to Fox “News” have been successfully sued for tens to hundreds of millions for promulgating lies; now the entire billionaire-supported authoritarian movement is pushing back against fact-checkers with muscle and money.

The Post reports that the attacks by Jordan, Senator Joni Ernst, and others have taken universities and academics who study online lies and disinformation “by surprise.” Numerous experts, not wanting to get embroiled in inquiries and litigation that could cost hundreds of thousands in legal fees, are fleeing the field or moving to private universities, where their work can’t be subpoenaed according to The Washington Post.

Laura Edelson, an assistant professor of computer science at Northeastern University who was formerly the Justice Department’s chief technologist and was investigating online lies, told The Washington Post about her job change:

“I knew that because of the way our field is being attacked that the cost of the work I do is a lot higher at a public institution. I just didn’t want to pay that cost, and that’s why I only applied to private universities.”

One of the Republican conspiracy theories is that President Joe Biden had a top prosecutor in Ukraine fired because he was investigating Biden's son.


It is a tale that has been disproved by fact-check after fact-check, but it's something Fox's Brian Kilmeade tried to reinvigorate when he interviewed former Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko. It failed spectacularly.

Kilmeade played a clip of the former prosecutor, Victor Shokin, who has promoted the conspiracy theory on numerous occasions for Fox. But on Sunday, Poroshenko wasn't playing ball.

He's "a complete crazy person," said Poroshenko of Shokin. "There's something wrong with him."


Kilmeade's face fell into a kind of blank sadness.


The moment led to internet ridicule for most of Monday afternoon.

"Did Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko just completely destroy the GOP’s Biden accusations?" asked Ed Krassenstein.

"Brian Kilmeade on Sunday inadvertently took a sledgehammer to a load-bearing pillar holding up a long-debunked conspiracy that Republicans are currently trying to use to impeach President Joe Biden," described the Daily Beast.

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) plans to give back $5,000 that Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) donated to his U.S. Senate campaign last year. The Pennsylvania Democrat, who was the first senator to call on the New Jersey politician to resign, will return the donation in envelopes full of $100 bills in a reference to evidence laid out by prosecutors in an indictment alleging that Menendez engaged in corruption with three associates and businessmen, reported The Messenger.

"Senator Menendez should resign. He’s entitled to the presumption of innocence, but he cannot continue to wield influence over national policy, especially given the serious and specific nature of the allegations," Fetterman posted on Saturday. "I hope he chooses an honorable exit and focuses on his trial."

In New Jersey, there is a controversial ballot design system that effectively rigs the primary for whomever county-level officials endorse for office. Candidates who receive the "party line," as chosen by those officials, are displayed in a more prominent column on the ballot, while those who do not are displayed in separate columns off to the side that make it confusing for voters to select them. If New Jersey county officials select someone other than Menendez for the party line, he would have an uphill battle.

Lev Parnas, one of the associates of Rudy Giuliani's working on the Ukraine conspiracy has been released from prison on home confinement and he's speaking out about his experience working to help Donald Trump.


MSNBC's Ari Melber asked what he called "an obvious, straightforward comparison. There are people like Mr. Giuliani, to say nothing of Mr. Trump who have faced less accountability than you. Did that weigh on your mind while you were incarcerated?"

Parnas agreed, noting that since his incarceration he's had a lot of time to think.

"That's been weighing on my mind from the day I was arrested, because the things I was doing, at the time I was doing it, I thought I was doing it, as an American patriot, serving my country," he said. "Never in my wildest dreams did I think the president of the United States could be so corrupt and do the things he did or send me to do the things that I ended up doing. It still weighs on my mind heavily. That is why I am trying to now make amends and make sure I let the whole truth out and make sure everybody knows exactly what transpired, especially with what's going on in Ukraine."

He explained that at the time, he truly believed Trump and Giuliani's claims that there was a "deep state conspiracy" afoot inside the U.S. government.

"And the Ukrainian people were involved in the officials involved were corrupt and they were trying to undermine the U.S. elections by -- at the time," Parnas continued. "But after reflecting and understanding exactly what transpired, I now realize and understand that it was really Trump using Giuliani, like his Roy Cohn. And making him put people like myself in harm's way to be able to dig up dirt, at that time, on Joe Biden."


Conservatives are still trying to push the same conspiracy, that President Joe Biden's son was somehow involved in a slew of international scams that made the Biden men billionaires. It's false and no one in the Biden family is a billionaire. Parnas has said that the Hunter Biden laptop scheme was a "setup" from the beginning.

"Let me dig into that," Melber began. "What you are telling me, for my understanding is that, during that time you bought into the storyline that you thought, if there is really corruption over there, you are helping explore or uproot it, perhaps. And you are telling me that later you came to see that — which I should know and viewers know was a widely discredited cover story to hurt the Bidens for political reasons — that you do now see it that way and say well, actually it was all kind of Trump's political BS?"

He agreed, and began to echo some of the same points other former Trump allies have said once leaving the fold, describing it more as a kind of cult than a political campaign.


"You have to understand, I grew up in Brooklyn and I looked up to people like Giuliani and Trump and when he became president, I really believed I was cultinized, and I drink the kool-aid," Parnas admitted. "And I really believed that he was trying to do good for our country and I thought, honestly that everything I'm doing is positive for our country. But eventually, even prior to my arrest, I could see the way that Giuliani was being so aggressive with Trump officials and putting pressure on President [Volodymyr] Zelensky at the time."

"Sooner or later I started getting a feeling, but I didn't realize it until after my arrest and after I had time to re-evaluate everything that happened and understand," continued Parnas. "Today I truly believe and understand that they were using me to be able to basically win the 2020 election. Most people deep down inside -- educated, common sense individuals who might not be saying it out loud, realize it's a bunch of BS and it's not true, but they don't come out and say it because for their own personal benefits. They want to change the policy or president, or whatever the political aspect is."

He closed by admitting that based on what he saw, he firmly believes that both Giuliani and Trump "committed crimes" based on the way they pressured Zelensky and prosecutors in Ukraine. Parnas also linked Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) to the scheme at one point.


"They basically blackmailed them and force them into trying to get information. They threaten them with different things," said Parnas. "The first thing was not having Vice President Pence attend the inauguration. That was a huge thing for President Zelensky once he got into office. With how the military is and stuff like that. The constant threat going on, the state and get what they wanted and what they wanted was for President Zelensky to come out and say there was going to be an investigation into Joe Biden.

Hunter Biden is suing Rudy Giuliani, claiming the former New York Mayor hacked data from the hard drive of his infamous laptop and 'annihilated' his privacy.

The device found at a Delaware repair shop contained thousands of photos, videos and files of the president's scandal-hit son.

Publication of the details led to accusations that the Biden family were involved in corrupt influence-peddling while Joe Biden was vice president, and ultimately to an impeachment inquiry against the current president.

It is the latest combative move from Hunter's legal team as he prepares to appear in court on federal gun charges, and as House Republicans prepare to hold the first impeachment inquiry hearing on Thursday.

Hunter and his attorneys accuse Giuliani and Costello of 'tampering' and 'manipulating' information on the laptop.

The lawsuit accuses them of having 'dedicated an extraordinary amount of time and energy toward looking for, hacking into, tampering with, manipulating, copying, disseminating, and generally obsessing over data that they were given that was taken or stolen.'

It also claims Giuliani and Costello used Hunter's username to access the data on the laptop left at a repair shop in Delaware.

The lawsuit says 'the defendants are among those who have been primarily responsible for what has been described as the "total annihilation" of Plaintiff’s digital privacy.

'They also are among those who have been primarily responsible for the "total annihilation" of Plaintiff’s data.'

It was filed in a federal court in Los Angeles.

Giuliani and Costello say they were given a copy of the hard drive in August 2020 by the repair shop's owner, John Paul Mac Isaac.

Since then Mac Isaac has also handed it over to federal investigators, and multiple news organizations, including DailyMail.com, have since verified its contents

The lawsuit mentions Giuliani's statements on a podcast and his nightly YouTube show.

'This belongs to Hunter Biden,' Giuliani said, while holding up a laptop during a February 2, 2023 episode of America's Mayor Live.

A judge has ruled that Dodgy Donald committed fraud for years while building the real estate empire that catapulted him to fame and the White House.

Judge Arthur Engoron, ruling on Tuesday in a civil lawsuit brought by New York’s attorney-general, found that Trump and his company deceived banks, insurers and others by massively overvaluing his assets and exaggerating his net worth on paperwork used in making deals and securing financing.
