12 x 3 minute rounds for women's boxing

See https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/boxing/66742976. Exactly the right move, which I've advocated in at least one other thread, and it's already allowed under BBBofC rules. It's the sanctioning bodies that need to catch up, given their daft limitation to 10 x 2s. Imagine a Shields v Marshall rematch over 12 x 3s - that would be a proper fight. Let's hope it catches on.

It’s the same sport or it’s not.
Didn’t Nicola Adams do a fight or two over 3s?
At the very least a World Title fight should be 12 x 2s.

the women get restricted to fight 2 minute rounds and then the women themselves get slated for it lol

Unlikely to happen as promoters will have to pay them more

I don`t see why they`d have to pay them more.
if they don`t want the fight being offered then they simply don`t earn ... its a professional game so they either take whats on offer or go back working in the local chippie

12x3 or 10x2, they would have to pay them more.

And of course that's why women want the longer fights.

funnily enough, in the past some male labour unions advocated equal pay for equal work, not out of the goodness of their hearts, but because it took away the biggest advantage women had over men in gaining employment

They obv won't get paid the same as men, but their pay would need to be upped if the length of the fight moves from 20 to 36 mins

They only get what they are being offered.

If they are offered £50k to fight over 12x3 rnds ... but holding out for a offer to fight 10x2 rnds for £50k that nobody is offering them, then I`m expecting them to take the 12x3 sooner or later

If they choose not to. Then I guess they can go back to fighting 3x2 rnds for a plastic trophy and a grub ticket.

Pay is related to commercial value not duration of contest.
Tom Cruise in a 4 rounder would earn millions whereas a novice pro will earn £1500.

Was this the good old days of the 1800s?? All male unions probably had bigger problems than women competing for jobs

Considering the current income to productivity proportionality the pay is now probably worse than the 1800s :OhYes:

A womens marathon distance is the same as a mans....

therefore boxing should be the same

Perhaps so but a woman’s 100m is only 70m?

Sometimes I like the fact it’s 10 two minute rounds.

The fights fly!

But I’ve seen some of the higher lever stuff from the women and 3 mins would help. A lot can happen in one minute.

Maybe even a lot more stoppages.

I all for full equality.

Equal money - 3 minute rounds - no vests/tops :OhYes:

I like it, it's still in its raw stages, if we can start getting girls who've been training as kids and fighting well in amateur tournaments (some of the Best women fighters are still in amateurs, Katie Taylor vs Queen Underwood in New York was a hell of a scrap) they will be fighting at a much higher level than an amateur female boxer who hasn't had much of a career just turning pro to get fights to get money to just get food on the table

Katie only turned pro after losing to rival amateur fighters she could beat easily enough before, I think she was past her best by the time of her 4th pro fight

The standard will improve the more rapidly we support it

Make it profitable enough for them to turn pro before their thirties with a style based on high volume and fitness, like Taylor

There is no reason for the female boxing not to be different. Well, if the science says there is something more harmful for women, then fine.

Steady on ! :maybe:

I know we often have to speak up for it a bit, because the bigots just want to hate on it whatever, but puh-lease.
At it's best - and it's getting there slowly - it's as good as the men. That's all that fans, feminists and any of us can really hope for.
To say it's better is daft.

Does anyone wanna see boxing reduced to 10x2s "to make it faster-paced and more exciting" ?!
Of course not. :shame:
If anything, a UFC style 5 min round would be better - that would surely give less breaks and more stoppages.

would be good to see parity on round length. A good move if it happens.
