The fight will be the first 12x3 women’s fight since 2007

In a surprising turn of events, Jake Paul has done something genuinely cool. Most Valuable Promotions announced today that Amanda Serrano will face WBO mandatory challenger Danila Ramos in an October 27th bout scheduled for 12 three-minute rounds.

Serrano’s (45-2-1, 30 KO) WBA, WBO, and IBF featherweight titles will be on the line. WBC head honcho Mauricio Sulaiman has long opposed letting women fight under the same rules as men, spouting bogus claims about the shorter rounds making things “more exciting” and repeatedly and brazenly lying about a 2016 study to claim longer rounds are unsafe.

This is despite other combat sports like MMA having identical rules for men and women with zero ill effects.

Brazil’ Ramos (12-2, 1 KO) is coming off a solid win over Brenda Karen Carbajal and her two defeats are to former interim titlists Katharina Thanderz and Elhem Mekhaled. It’s as good a résumé as you’re likely to find for new Serrano challengers; outside of, say, an overly ambitious Skye Nicholson, there’s not a whole lot left for Serrano at 126.

Still, I’m glad this fight is happening. May it be the first of many.

“Danila Ramos may be my WBO mandatory challenger, but when we step in the ring, she will understand exactly why I am the undisputed featherweight champion,” said Amanda Serrano.

“But this fight is about more than some belts. We have faced a long and hard battle, united as women, to achieve the same pay, respect, and recognition in boxing. Together, on Friday, October 27, we will make history and prove to the world once again, how incredible women’s boxing is and that we are just as tough, dynamic, and capable as any man in the ring, if not more so. This is a fight for women everywhere to be treated the same as their male counterparts.”

Ramos, the veteran fighter out of Buenos Aires by way of Sao Paulo, Brazil, was ordered by the WBO on August 28 as mandatory challenger for Serrano’s featherweight world title. On August 18, Ramos won the WBO Interim world featherweight championship via a split decision over Brenda Karen Carbajal in Buenos Aires, who had held the belt since May 13th, 2022. She shares the same sentiment and desire as Serrano when it comes to showing the world that the rules of elite boxing should be the same for men and women.

“Fighting Amanda Serrano for 12 three-minute rounds for a unified championship is set to break the barriers that we women have been looking to do for many years,” said Danila Ramos.

“We will go down in history and in the books, it will be a fight of two women warriors! I am preparing like never before for this fight and will proudly represent Brazil as we battle in Orlando, Florida and I look to bring all the belts home.”

Antonio Vargas-Tyson Marquez, Krystal Rosado Confirmed For Undercard

The supporting cast for the next entry in Amanda Serrano’s historic career will include her own protégé as well as a crossroads bout between an Olympian and a former major titlist

Boxing Scene has confirmed that 2016 U.S, Olympian and bantamweight contender Antonio Vargas will meet former WBA flyweight titlist Hernan ‘Tyson’ Marquez in a scheduled ten-round regional bantamweight title fight. The bout will headline the preliminary undercard preceding the October 27 DAZN main show where Serrano (45-2-1, 30 KOs) defends her lineal and unified featherweight championship versus interim WBO titlist Danila Ramos. Serrano-Ramos is scheduled for twelve, three-minute rounds atop a four-fight DAZN telecast from Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida.

Confirmed for the main show, unbeaten lightweights Alexander Rios (7-0, 4 KOs) and Benigno Aguilar (10-0, 4 KOs) meet in a scheduled six-round contest. Rounding out the main undercard telecast, the Serrano-managed Krystal Rosado is set for her second pro fight. The former amateur standout from Puerto Rico will appear in a bout versus an opponent to be determined. Rosado (1-0, 1 KO) made her pro debut at this very venue in an August 18 knockout win on the Most Valuable Promotions (MVP)-presented second edition of the MVProspects series.

All three bouts support to the already announced October 27 DAZN main event where Serrano (45-2-1, 30 KOs) defends her featherweight championship versus Danila Ramos.

“The world will be watching Amanda Serrano and Danila Ramos make history Friday, October 27th as the first-ever unified women’s championship bout to be fought at 12, three-minute rounds,” Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian, co-founders of Most Valuable Promotions, said in a joint statement provided to BS.com. “Preceding their historic fight, MVP is thrilled to continue shining a spotlight on both the best and most promising fighters through Most Valuable Prospects III. Rios vs Aguilar will undoubtedly be a Puerto Rico vs Mexico battle and Krystal Rosado is looking to continue her spectacular start to her professional career.”

The locally based Vargas (16-1, 9 KOs) is unbeaten in his last seven starts after a stunning first-round knockout defeat in his Kissimmee (Florida) hometown to Jose Maria Cardenas in May 2019. A member of the 2016 U.S. Olympic boxing team that competed in Rio, Vargas rattled off six consecutive victories before his most recent bout versus Francisco Pedroza Portillo ended in a No-Contest. A clash of heads left Pedroza cut in round two and unable to continue prior to the start of the fourth round of their May 12 bout at Caribe Royale.

Marquez (47-10-2, 33 KOs) held the WBA flyweight title once upon a time, in an era where he served as a can’t-miss action fighter. The 35-year old southpaw from Empalme, Sonora, Mexico has seen better days but has won four in a row headed into a must-win scenario. His most recent victory came in a ten-round split decision over Luis ‘Nica’ Concepcion, whom he defeated via 11th round knockout for his lone major title in their April 2011 scorcher. He also knocked out Concepcion in the first round of their rematch later that October.

Serrano will attempt the sixth defense of her third tour as a featherweight champ. She once again made history for Puerto Rico earlier this year when she fully unified the featherweight division in a ten-round win over Erika Cruz. The February 4 headliner at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater in New York City remains a leading candidate for 2023 Fight of the Year.

An agreement with Argentina’s Ramos (12-2, 1 KO) was reached for their title consolidation bout to carry historical implications. Serrano has previously pushed for twelve-round fights and three-minute rounds to match the men, and found a willing partner in Ramos to once again raise the bar for women in boxing.

lescaille a cuban, but doesnt really look like the sterotype cuban slickster. little jabbing, a lot of loading up and swinging for the fences. barlow has taken loads of shots but is still there, even lands a decent right hand i nthe 7th

Lescaille a good prospect.

Too keen for the KO bonus but he got it in the end. :box:
Shoulda been stopped in the 4th and 5th, but they wanted that highlight reel and poor exhausted Barlow takes a nasty, damaging KO his corner coulda saved him from. :bag: :maybe: :shame:

YoElvis ? Harsh !
Yeah not a total slickster, but he's naturally strong as you say, well-schooled too and that was only his fifth fight.

He's defo Jake Paul's best prospect isn't he ?

I think Manda woulda got the stoppage with a bit more experience of the times, but fair play Danila Ramos.

Decent fight and it's obvious that women should fight the same now.

Serrano looked like she was getting to Ramos in the 12th,.maybe they need 15 rounders to get the KOs
