One thing that strikes me about Witter he talks a good fight (arrogant little shit) and seems to fear no one, i think he could be a big player sooner rather than later.

Even when we're talking about the strange and wonderful world of sanctioning bodies, this is completley and utterly Bizzare. I'd love to know what gos on inside these peoples heads.

I couldn't help but notice in the press release that Witter said he suspected someone had 'pulled some strings.' Interesting theory.

Doesnt really shock me. It seems the norm seeing rankings like this in boxing

Actually in fairness to him Hatton was already ahead of Witter and the other fighters aren't with his stable it would be interesting to see who they are with though.

And who the fornicate is Ricardo Torres! Qu'el surprise, another of these unknown south americans who seem to permeate the rankings of the WBO! How then fornicate is this guy ranked above Witter, it's ludicrous!!

Hatton if anyone deserves his ranking, but there's some ridiculous names in that list!

...is nicely positioned for a rematch of their 2000 Olympic meeting.

I used to have that match on my computer and watched it a good few times. It was like man against boy, with Cotto getting easily outpointed.

Abdulaev looks to be one of those who 'wasted' his prime years wearing a vest. On present form Cotto would have to be favourite to win the pro showdown.

i am not suggesting allegedly has over inflated Hatton (although number 1 is questionable) i am saying that Witter may have been dropped out of jealous or spite....

abdulaev is probably suffering from the kid in a candy store syndrome

He's still only lost once Abdulaev, but it was a real shocker against Clottey, just as they were bigging him up as a future champion too. Probably never developed the toughness for the pro game.

Unusually for someone who was amateur so long, he has a very good KO record, though most of those did come against pretty average competition.

He's actually fouhgt reasonable opposition since losing to Clottey, nothing outstanding mind.

Wasnt Abdulaev winning his fight with Clottey pretty handily and then put down in the 10th and due to a language misunderstanding got counted out on his knee?

Looks like the WBO wants to keep Cotto as their champ at any cost (After Corley putting him on dream street)... Hatton #1, because they know he'll get destroyed (Tszyu) before that #1 rank means anything.

The WBO rankings are always full of 'certain' promoters fighters

However Oscar De La Hoya is well in with the WBO, so I can't see any major obstacle for a Witter Vs Cotto fight, except for Witters hand and Cotto's weight

Do you not know that Cotto is promoted by Bob Arum? Last Monday (not yesterday) Arum was reported in the LA Times of saying that Oscar De La Hoya took the cowards way out against Hopkins by lying on the floor and refusing to get up.

The two men dont get on, this would certainly appear to be a spanner in the works for a potential Cotto v Witter fight. As I see it Arum and Cotto would be doing De La Hoya and Witter a favour by giving Witter a shot - as Witter is some way down the WBO rankings (#6).

I cant see Arum doing De La Hoya any favours, unless Arum thinks Cotto beats Witter easy.

I really doubt they would put Cotto in with Witter next, he looked very shaky against Corley, if Witter shook him up like that he'd finish the fight there and then. One of them nobodies will get the next shot no doubt or an older guy.

At the end of the day money talks...DLH may stump up big money if he reckons Witter can de-rail one of Arums top fighters.

Also gives DLH a chance to get involved with Cotto. He got his own contract with Arum annulled, so maybe he could do the same with Cotto, and start promoting him?

James, like it or not 'pulling strings' is currently part of boxing, without doubt the most corrupt global sport in the world.

I'm well aware of that sadly Goz. After all, promoters and managers continually lobby the sanctioning bodies to get their fighters rated. It's a joke.

Is it just lobbying? Remember Cedrick Kushner, didnt he get caught paying off some sanctioning bodies and what was that fuss about the IBF, werent they suppossed to be taking cash sweeteners when in the process of preparing their rankings?

Obviously those were more extreme cases, but on the run of the mill isnt it part of the deal that a promoter foots the bill for providing accomodation to the sanctioning body's officials for a fight. The better a promoter looks after the officials from a sanctioning body, then the better the sanctioning body will look after the promoter and his fighters?

Also, the more you use a sanctioning body over others and make them a good steady source of income, the more the sanctioning body will look after you as "their investment." Thus they will bendover backwards not to upset you.

That is why there should be a single sanctioning body which has more power than the promoters rather than promoters who have more power than the sanctioning body
