What is Eddie on about? (According to BBC)

Post by si7dog7 »

Terms are agreed with Wilder blah blah blah
Things are a bit different in Saudi though so might only get xmillion extra
Then we’ve got Fury (another snake oil salesman btw)
Or Ruiz for a third match

Then there’s Hrgovic

But my man has been so so active. Which is unheard of..

Ok I’m paraphrasing. But FFS.

I’m trusting the BBC to post a correct interview

Otherwise 🤦‍♀️

The fight is “locked in”. He’s agreed terms for a fight with Wilder with no contract, no offer, no date and no venue.
5 years ago he walked away from $50m because he hadn’t got a contract(or so I read on here).

Originally wasn't Joshua v Wilder meant to be on the same billing as Usyk v Fury. Looks like without the undisputed fight attached to it the Saudis don't want it.

As a boxing fan I just think, so why not move it to Vegas or Wembley? But I guess from the perspective of team Joshua and team Wilder they would prefer to wait on the biggest pot possible before pushing all in. And whilst the promise of Saudi money is still out there... this is likely to drag on and on.

Personally, I think they should go to Vegas. The British audience is already locked in for Wilder v Joshua, it's the American market they would need to capture. If they really wanted it, I would say a sensible approach would be make a fight between Joshua and Ruiz Jr. in America. Let Wilder fight the winner of Charr v Miller for the WBA regular. If they both come through that, there will be some hype behind them. They can sell it as a World Title fight to the Americans (like they have been doing with Tank Davis) with the winner being next up for Usyk.

One thing is for certain, they need to forget about Fury. Let him enjoy his retirement and exhibition fights

This Saudie money or the prospect of it is damaging HW boxing IMO, eveyone is holding out for thsy giant pay day, you won't see AJ fighting anyone as good as Herg whilst there is still the chance of a big saudie fight down the line. Why dont Wilder and AJ just fight in Vegas or Wembley, because erm Saudie money.

Yeah - that’s the issue isn’t it. It has massively slowed everything down and everyone is wanting that massive pay day.

It seems like the Skills Challenge negotiations that went on for c.6 months were pointless so now have to see if the new guys are interested, whether the money is similar and what timescale. FW has played it very smart going in through the back door with these guys.

Usyk signed with Skills Challenge so I’m not sure where that leaves him too.

There will be very little demand for another marking time fight for AJ. Unless they get a firm contract to fight Wilder in Q1 next year in the next few weeks then they should just get to work finding the next best place for it.

The U.K. fans will watch regardless of time zone so, I guess, it’d make more sense having it in the US so at least they can try US PPV too.

Agree with all of that.

Problem being how little of a draw AJ is in the States. I was reading something a few months ago which laid out just what a disaster that night against Ruiz was and how it pretty much killed him in America. A few years on and that continues to be a problem when you talk about a Vegas fight.

I just don't know what's going on with Eddie/Matchroom/Dazn at the moment. I really don't think it's great there, and the fact that Prograis/Haney is going to be PPV just puts pay to all that talk about Canelo leaving 'freeing up' budget.

I don’t think it’s a big draw in the US but even if it does 200k buys over there it will help narrow the gap to the talked about Saudi money.

It’ll be interesting to see how it sells at the gate in the US. Neither are massive draws but, I think we can all agree, it’s a great fight and it’s a fight that even my casual boxing fan mates really want to see. I’d probably even try and go to it.

Agree - it seems strange at the moment with Matchroom/DAZN. It’s stupid that they’re planning Haney/Prograis on PPV and you’re right in what say re: the Canelo budget. I’d imagine DAZN are seeing what they pay for some of these fights and compare to what they pay, and the return generated, by the Misfits guys and it won’t reflect well on Eddie.

It was so relatable seeing Bellew argue with Froch about wether Joshua should take the fight with Wilder, it's 60 million untaxed Carl

Where is Bellewa hatred of child abusers and scumbags??

2-3 weeks and we move on said Hearn, so many weeks ago I've lost count and still no contract, no date, no venue and seemingly, no hope.

Eddie has moved on. Now he’s talking of multiple offers from multiple countries.
