Both former Prime Minister Truss – who was in office at No 10 Downing Street for a mere 49 days – and former Home Secretary Patel spoke in front of audiences at the gathering.

During their speeches, the politicians both lauded GB News, thanking the channel ‘for everything you do’, k.

Speaking at the Tory conference, Patel gave a direct shoutout to GB News, stating: ‘I do also want to welcome some more friends here tonight. Our friends that are here, the newest, most successful, most dynamic, no-nonsense news station, and the defenders of free speech, that is my friends at GB News.’

As the audience cheered and clapped, she continued: ‘Thank you for everything that you do. Just incredible. Honestly, just incredible. Don’t look embarrassed, I know you’re not shrinking violets.

‘Thank you for absolutely everything you do, because this isn’t breaking news, but I think it’s fair to say that our country needed a new disruptor when it came to the broadcast media to take on the establishment. The Tory-hating, Brexit-bashing, free-speech deniers at the BBC and the so-called mainstream media.’

the thing that annoys me, about the vague outcry over this, is that the outcry is about them lauding GB News even tho a couple of attention-seeking wingnuts made some sexist comments recently

as if that is the biggest problem, with a 'News' channel that is so blatantly partisan that it employs several members of one particular party.

and lies, fvcking constantly. and spreads propaganda verging on (or actually just being) conspiracist

The Tory-hating, Brexit-bashing, free-speech deniers at the BBC and the so-called mainstream media

the alternative, of course (and the only one acceptable to tories) is news media uncritically accepting and praising everything you say and do.

we're becoming america (note the particular repetition of 'Free speech', the core obsession of all racist bigots who like to cosplay as libertarians to soften their image). GB News will actually end up prospering, in the end, because there are so many that agree with its core messages and core values (I'll leave you to decide for yourself what those core values are)

the way this country going is just incredibly depressing.

Rishi Sunak has suggested he would welcome Nigel Farage back into the Conservative Party.

Sunak told GB News the Tory Party is a "broad church", adding that he "welcomes lots of people who want to subscribe to our ideals".

Nigel Farage is attending the Conservative Party Conference for the first time in 30 years.

The Conservatives instinctively seem to despise the BBC.

It is the one thing they can't privatise which greatly irks them and, however hard they try, they cannot control it with their attempts to shoe-in their politically-appointed executives.

That's wormwood for them - a state-owned entity that has escaped their clutches - that does not do the state's bidding.

Lionising GB News is some red meat for a conference crowd and frankly a very cheap-easy hit, but it also reflects that the Conservatives do remain a long-term and persistent threat to the BBC and that it is unfinished business in their eyes.

If these idiots looked-up for a moment they would actually realise that the BBC are tough on whoever is in power and are therefore objective.....Blair and Brown had some huge bumps in the road but did not behave in the same manner.

There's perhaps also something else going on which is that politicians now want to use "safe platforms" where they know that they have an editorial bias and will not be interrogated and can "message" to their heart's content.

so here is the Express's take on Trussonomics:

But at this conference in Manchester, hundreds queued to hear Ms Truss's bravado speech on "axeing the taxes" at her Growth Rally.

The fact is that many Tory members think Ms Truss's ideas were right and polling suggests the majority of them are backed by the public too.

they reference (in the polling) redfield and wilton (a polling company):

https://redfieldandwiltonstrategies.com ... e-year-on/

https://redfieldandwiltonstrategies.com/

they are an american company so we can guess their slant. but you see the direction of travel, it isn't just tory grandees its 'the majority of britons' (which we should all be suitably sceptical about, as a claim, but its easy to throw these claims around and get some traction)

anyway, like I have been saying, this is going to be the tory mantra now.

lower taxes for working britons (just don't say the other bit out loud about who will benefit the most).

people will buy it. Labour will get a single term, get blamed for being unable to magic away 13 years of Tory misrule, and the tories will be straight back in. just watch.

a thing i find fascinating about the tories, and how they are addressed in the media: how they are willing to say on multiple levels that This Country is Fvcked, inviting the enquiry as to exactly why or how that might be the case after 13 years of tory rule.

i mean, to hear their tone at this fucken conference, you'd swear they were in opposition. they complain about everything. they hate what the country has become on multiple levels. and its all the fucken 'Blob', isn't it.

back to Truss, though:

The former Prime Minister was in impressive form when she dined with the Daily Express with a very detailed and cogent analysis of how to fix the country.

But what is most obvious is that her confidence and spark are back.

Truss may not be leader again but she certainly could be a King or Queen maker

 i keep telling y'all................... the RW press love her. and the tory base swallow everything they say.

just watch..........

oh, and now we are leaning into globalist conspiracy theories, too:

In leaked WhatsApp messages obtained by Sky News at the weekend, some members of the CDO embraced extreme conspiracy theories, suggesting Sunak is being manipulated by a global government run by elites linked to the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Who are the new factions in the Conservative Party?

As mad as this sounds, some were surprised when some elements of this argument surfaced at the party conference.

Backbench Tory MP Danny Kruger denounced "a huge movement going on globally to create essentially a world government that will have power to dictate to national governments what they should do in anticipation of another pandemic", saying there is no greater threat to democracy.

It's a very powerful discourse and will, I suspect, appeal to many people (and so many folk simply don't know better).

The more I think about it though, we might not even get a Labour government. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being a Labour-led coalition which the Tories will then scream about being a 'coalition of chaos' - conveniently ignoring the fact that they actually seized power in 2010 through a coalition.

yup, it's got that Panglossian quality to it, after all, who wouldn't want to live in a more dynamic society, who could object to the idea of growth, who wouldn't be appealed to by the idea of Tax Cuts Leaving More Money In The Back Pockets Of Ordinary Hard Working Britons (whilst leaving much, much, much MUCH more money in the hands of bloated fvcking plutocrats)?

and who wouldn't, after 14 years of the misery of tory rule and 5 years of at least equal misery dealing with their legacy, be tired enough and desperate enough to just try something different?

I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being a Labour-led coalition which the Tories will then scream about being a 'coalition of chaos'

also very possible.

it's so fvcked, I have 'known' in my bones for months the way this RW narrative around 'growth' will develop. just the way Trussy brazenly Carried On Regardless mere weeks after her farcical tenure, and the RW press lapping it up immediately, there's this weird, depressing inevitability about it.

A top Tory was roasted live on air as a TV presenter hit out at three Tory “untruths”.

Hapless Science, Innovation and Technology Secretary Michelle Donelan was taken to task after using her Conservative Party conference speech to claim: “We are the party of facts.” But BBC Newsnight host Victoria Derbyshire played her a clip showing three Cabinet ministers making outlandish statements not based in fact.

They included Prime Minister Rishi Sunak insisting he had scrapped “a Government diktat to sort your rubbish into seven different bins"; Transport Secretary Mark Harper suggesting “local councils can decide how often you go to the shops”; and Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho telling activists Labour wants to introduce a tax on red meat.

Confronting Ms Donelan, Ms Derbyshire said: "How can you be the party of facts when none of that is true?" But Ms Donelan insisted: "We are the party that stands up for facts." Ms Derbyshire went on: "I'm not going to let this go. There was never a proposal to use seven bins. We can't find any council that wants to decide how often people can go to shops and Labour have never proposed taxing meat. They are untruths, they are fiction, they are completely and utterly made up and it's really disrespectful to voters." Ms Donelan said: "I genuinely believe we are the party of facts and evidence."

I heard that. Impressed with that interviewer, though it says more about the current state of things that most will let this shit go.

I think Lee Anderson is a better candidate for that role:

Lee Anderson claimed that there is no poverty in Britain as he spoke at a fringe event at the Conservative party conference on Tuesday, 3 October.

The deputy Tory party chairman, once nicknamed “30p Lee” for his comments on food banks, said he “doesn’t believe” in “poverty nonsense,” claiming that there was “real poverty” when he was growing up in the 1970s.

According to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, 13.4 million people were living in poverty in 2020/21.

really, Labour should be replaying this speech every time they can.

the irony being that Anderson is supposed to be The Tory That Connects With Really Real People, Really, but he can't help showing his Olympian boorishness and insensitivity.

they're off their fucken heads, more quasi-Churchillian cosplaying, this time by Admiral Mordaunt:

The Commons Leader told party members: “What I have to say to you today is not for the faint-hearted. We face the fight of our lives and our country needs us again, to stand up and fight. Stand up and fight against the odds, against the polling, against the sneering commentary, against the inevitability of decliners and the despite-Brexiters.”

“Stand up and fight for the freedoms we have won. Against Socialism whether it is made of velvet or iron.”

She went on: “Have courage and conviction. Because when you stand up and fight, the person beside you stands up and fights.

“And when our party stands up and fights, the nation stands up and fights.

“And when our nation stands up and fights, other nations stand up and fight. They stand up and fight for the things upon which the progress of humanity depends. Freedom.

“That is what Conservatives do. That is what this nation does. Have Courage. Bring Hope. Stand up and fight, stand up and fight!”

to rapturous applause, naturally.

“And when our nation stands up and fights, other nations stand up and fight. They stand up and fight for the things upon which the progress of humanity depends. Freedom.

never let it be said these knts lack for the ability to infuse their speeches with a massively inflated idea of their own grandiosity
