me too, tough bugger too, so many injuries in the Jack fight and still carried on fighting after. He looked so injured after.

He didn’t quite have the charisma to carry off his early braggadocious persona and so he didn’t come across terribly well in the media. This maybe stopped him crossing over in the way that a gold medal winner with his talents could have done.

Very good fighter tho, a tough night’s work for anyone in his prime. It was sad to see him fade quite rapidly towards the end of his career culminating in the loss to Eubank, a guy who he would’ve schooled in his pomp.

My thoughts too.

I always think DeGale v Froch is a fight we missed out on.

I didn’t like DeGale early in his career and you could clearly see he was trying to do the ‘love to hate me’ Naz persona but didn’t quite have the intellect and charisma to pull it off. There was a ringside interview with Groves where he was falling over his words a lot. As he got through his career that changed tho and when I saw the money he was gonna get for Dirrell I remember thinking go on lad go and spank the yank. And then obviously the Badou Jack was brilliant back and forth. When he went down late I just remember physically jumping out my seat. But as others have mentioned he was so brave making it to the end of that fight to get the draw that was basically him done afterwards.

deffo and nobody gives Eubank credence from beating the ghost of Degale, who I suspect got a nice last payday. Health and dosh intact. Winning.

ADHD does mess up your concentration. Sounds ridiculous, but you could be thinking of 1 million other things in the middle of a fight/spar.

He was a very good fighter. World class.

And, the night he won the World title, he had the late Darren Sutherland's name stiched into his shorts; and dedicated his World title to Darren in a post match interview in the changing room afterwards.

I thought that was a lovely gesture. Pleased to hear James sounding, and looking, so well and enjoying life post boxing.

I recently returned to working in a community mental health team after a few years away. I have been shocked by how much focus seems to be on ADHD and getting a diagnosis. It's very similar to how ASD was in the 2010's.

Quite sad to hear they offered him no option but meds to Degale. I have ADHD and few mates who have either ADHD or ADD went the meds route. They can help but the side effects can be horrible and in my humble opinion shouldn't be looked at as a long term solution.

I'm still a work in progress but by educating myself about the condition and it's origins, a lot of therapy and putting into practice strategies on a daily basis , Ive improved so much since I was first diagnosed in 2017. No meds.

Anyhow hope Degale finds some meaningful work post retirement. A career to be proud out and such an amazing talent. Also a stand-up good guy by the sounds of it.

It's interesting as I've got some asd traits and I've often found myself quite depressed at times which could be linked but meds don't help everyone. I know a lot of my depression was down to my material conditions and the situations I found myself in, astonishing the amount of people that think a pill will fix everything.

No doubt ADHD is a made-up 'condition' and the rush for a diagnosis is either linked to trying to get more money from benefits/avoid having to work at all or as a way to explain away normal character flaws or bad behaviour in children caused by poor parenting.

Degale was a warrior but as thick as mince (your breath stinks George). It's become fashionable to have ADHD or autism to get a leg-up on the victim tree so it's tedious to hear about this in Degale as some people are genuine suffers of mental illness and this trivialises it.

WOW your for it now mate , watch everyone jump all over you ,,, BUT i won't i agree 100%,,, what do i know about it NOWT ,, but i do know this , years ago we were called into the headmasters office a meeting with him and my boys teacher , we are talking 20 odd years ago he was about 8 maybee 9 , anyway his teacher she was what late 20's single no kids , but she informed us we were to take this letter they had prepared to our doctor , because she suspected and was convinced he had ADHD , so i done better i took him to a child sphycologist or whatever they call them he was an expert in this matter.

Anyway he had a session with us mam and dad and a couple of sessions with my lad , end result this guy got me an the wife in the office and asked us what we thought , my wife went into a load of motherly shite about he's a good boy , he's ok at home ect ect ,, then he looked at me and said what do you think ,

Well then i told him , i said its a load of shite , he looked suprised and said why ,,, i said the problem is'nt him its the school and the fookwit teacher , explain he said , so i did , i said the problem is he's bored , he's intelligent the work is easy he does it so quick he's finished before the other kids , so he gets told to sit still and shut up , he's 8 for god sake , his brain needs stimulating not drugged .

I then told him this class has around 25 kids , on her advice theres probably 12 or so that are on medication for ADHD , i said why the fook is this not being looked into , i said she can't control the kids so she's having them drugged , and just about everyone of these kids have a single mom on benefits for a parent , its a scam . more benefits kids are drugged up and everyones happy ,, ,, he looked at me and said what are you gonna do about it , i said simple he's not going on medication , he's changing schools ,

This fella literally threw his pen on the table and said to me , thank god your a sensible parent , he said its an epidemic out there and the schoolds don't help , he agreed it was more the teachers don't know or understand kids and don't know the difference between a bored kid and a kid with this sort of problem

we moved him i spoke to the next headmaster and suggested they put him up a grade , he did and he excelled at school , he found the next level harder and had to concentrate stopping the whole boredom problem , but that teacher just wanted him drugged ,

I also spent half a lifetime working on social housing , where EVERY SINGLE DAY OF THE WEEK i was dealing with these single mothers and ADHD kids and the common denominator was always benefits and get the kid quiet , it amazed me how many went doctor shopping until they found a doctor who would put the kid on drugs , .

I'm not saying it does'nt exist and some people do have it but by and large there just doping kids for money and get them out of there hair , its an epidemic ,, my wifes freind who is a child welfare worker told us an awful lot actually put the kids on it not just for the extra benefits but take the kids drugs themselves

Love that coneye and you did the right thing. People will look back at this time of drugging kids and be amazed we let it happen. And that's before touching adults chasing a diagnosis or the ultimate BS tag of 'self-diagnosed' or 'undiagnosed blah blah'

To be honest I agree with almost everything you've said on this thread especially drugging children or even adults for that matter and also thanks coneye too that was a great post but also effing scary and is sad to think what they are now doing to children

What I will say is since being diagnosed, it was actually a huge help to me. I wasn't looking for sympathy or to get out of anything more off anyone. It was more to have some sense of control of my life and understanding why things that seemed easy for most people were just so difficult for me. It was an aha moment that helped me make adjustments to make a better functioning adult.

You know the crazy thing , about conversations like this , is the fact that i tend to have strong opinions that most people i repeat most NOT ALL , but most just want to be a victim , get money or just simply shut there kids up , But yet my wife and two of my daughter in laws , constantly tell me i've got ADHD

They told me to look it up and i did , and must confess i have now and always have had every single symptom of it , but when young my parents answer was,nt to give me medication when i interupted adults conversation , i got a crack and told to shut up when i was impulsive and did'nt care , got into trouble or hurt myself which happenned a lot , i was just told well that will teach ya , .

Remember when i was a kid , my nana lived on the second floor off a 3 storey block of flats , i jumped off the balcony just to see if i could do it , my dad laughed and said he's puddled that one , my mam gave me a belt for doing it and my nana said leave him alone kids being kids , nowadays , they would have there kids before a doctor saying he's got something Its a shame for the ones who really do need the help because the bludgers are down grading there problem .

But one thing is for sure its not going away its big buisness, counceling is the biggest growth industry in the western world , the eastern and middle eastern world still have old fashioned therapy , has my old man used to say a crack for your whack , its frowned upon now , and too be honest unlike my parents who were very handy with there hands , i have never ever hit one of my kids but by christ they new and were taught from an early age discipline , when i said no football your grounded they were grounded , when i said there not going out they did'nt go out , but to be honest they all came to the gym with me from very early ages and thats where i think they learnt to respect others .

I just think a lot of kids don't need medication they need to have quality familly time and thats the missing link with lots of them
