Hide v Jones Jr

This week's Boxing News just landed. Buncey's column talks about how Hide and Jones Jr nearly fought in 98 for Hide's WBO title. Funniest bit was reading Hide was managed at the time by John Fashanu. How do we think that fought would have gone down if Jones had stepped up then instead of 5 years later?

God I love Herbie, but I don't think he gets near him.

I think this is the only valid real take possible.

Same as RJJ v Ruiz

I think Ruiz was underrated, he beat Holyfield in 2000 imo, I'm sad enough to have watched it a few times. Levels above Hide for me. Hide won the WBO when it was a comedic bauble.

Marc DI Mori vs Damon Reed would have been a pick ‘em. That says it all about Herbies WBO reign

nope, was Fashanu, it was the vaguely racist association of Fash with Kris that is worrying. But not surprising.

And I'm not judging, I thought it was Akabusi too.

Herbie would have been done so badly he would be thinking he was on Gladiators while looking at Fashanu as he was on the canvas.

Hmm Chris definitely had some kind of catchphrase, I'm sure of it when I was a kid.

it said they were both raised in Norfolk. I know they both have Nigerian heritage too, Hide born there, Fashanu's father was Nigerian (a barrister which is ironic in light of Fash's later legal issues).

It was Craig Charles that did Awooga first - On a show called Cyber Zone - it was on BBC 2 around the 6pm mark in the early (pre Gladiators) nineties. John Fashanu was actually a contestant on a celebrity edition of it - again pre Gladitators.

Chris Akabusi used to say "awwwight" on Record Breakers..... but yes Michael Barrymore was the originator of that phrase.

That is epic memory brought back, loved him on Red Dwarf. Also used to have a great radio show, really good music and he's funny too.

Awooga.
