Just a quick question here. How would this pair get on with today's middleweights do you think. I'm guessing this is a question for us oldies?

Sibson would definitely win a version of the title these days, I honestly thought he won a world title til I checked.

They’d probably have suited lots of invitations to Germany to battle the likes of Ottke, Sturm and Abrahams, losing lots of bad decisions.

You would have to fancy both against John Ryder
Beating Canelo, Biv and Bert is quite another thing.
Wouldn't fancy them v JC or Ward

Middleweight guys.
look at the list
Alan or Sibbo would have done very well against the current crop. Both game as they come.

A stat for Minter, out his 9 losses he was stopped 8 times and 7 of these were due to cuts. Coincidently the only fight he lost by stoppage that wasn't due to a cut was against Sibson.

Sibson really clobbered Minter. No one finished off Minter like that. In Alan's previous fight he lost a disputed decision to the world rated Mustapha Hamsho.
Both Minter & Sibson would have competed well against today's middleweights. Minter was a good boxer, very experienced & very spiteful in the ring.
Sibbo's power & boxing ability puts him in with a big shout against lots of today's crop.

I won’t rank one over the other but Sibbo clobbered the shell of Minter that night.
Both do very well in the current crop of MWs

Without a doubt, they’d both be champs. These two were around when there was only one title at middleweight.. can you imagine that? Now, to be honest, I had to look up who the middleweight champs were when I saw this thread,….and I’m a boxing fan..Jesus Christ.

With previous day weigh ins now and better nutrition/ PEDs I’d expect both to be at least light middle. Sibbo always had a slightly flabby physique. Boxing has changed so much hard to compare eras….

The current lot of middleweights are poor and Sibson and Minter were both really good. Both would win alphabet belts today pretty easily, IMO

I’m just saying the boxing world has changed a lot since the Sibbo minter days….. esp day before weigh ins and knowledge about cutting weight. It’s a different game

The extraordinary thing is Minter`s fights with Hagler, Hamso, Sibson happened back to back (probably in a 12 month span), this would happen over about 6 years nowaadays.

Different times indeed. In 1980 Minter fought Antuofermo then 3 months later rematched him and then 3 months later fought Hagler. In 1981 in fought Singletary, 3 months later fought Hamsho and then 3 months later fought Sibson.

As long as his eyes held up, I'm struggling to think of a current Middleweight who Minter wouldn't beat. Sibson was a bit more hot and cold, but he'd be in the mix for sure.

Difficult to compare, I think JC and Froch would have beaten them, Reid would have been close, the rest would have been beat.
Both nasty, spiteful sorts in the ring, had that animal instinct that you don't see much of today.

I forget Reid sometimes in the equation, won the WBC title, I think the way he lost it was surprising. I loved watching him on BBC in early noughties. I can still remember him in post-fight interviews "fight me Joe!". Won an Olympic belt too. He's commentating on BKFC these days.

Coco, it's worth remembering that Froch, Calzaghe & Reid were all super middleweights.

Fair enough, but super middle didn't exist in those days

Was a big fan of both especielly Sibson dont sea them beating Calagzie or Froch . But can see them being more than competetive with all the current middleweights .
