Good choice. He's had two fights where he's got credit for taking a bit of a pasting so no need to keep going with that. I imagine he got very well paid so has more than enough to get going post boxing.

pity I think he could have rematched Callum Smith for a decent domestic fight.

Loved watching John, gutsy guy who made the best of what he had and had a decent career from hard work and not shying away from challenges.

Good luck to him and I think it's the right call, he had a very good career and but for some debatable judging, could have won a world title

A great time to retire, after two high profile fights, ini which he gave his all, and certainly made them into a real fight.

Zach Parker looked to be using him as a stepping stone, but Ryder turned that on its head to enjoy some big fights and paydays at the end of what had previously been a fairly average career. He never gave up on himself, have to massively respect that.

Went the distace with Canelo, Callum Smith and BJS, that's certainly nothing to be ashamed off, all world class operators, even if one of them is a massive bellend.

Good career, especially for someone without world class talent, maximised what he had, genuine hard nut, hope he has earned retirement money

I still would have liked him to have one last fight challenging for the British title and then retire immediately afterwards win, lose or draw.

John boxed a string of quality boxers and never lost his focus following a defeat. That takes a special kind of toughness and dedication

the bjs fight is an often forgotten war. ryder gave bjs hell in the second half and had him very uncomfortable. bjs held on and rightfully won, but only by a whisker

with the toughness ryder showed vs canelo, munguia, smith, etc.....it's kinda strange that nick blackwell stopped him, but that's boxing for you. i guess he got stronger moving up

i should add that ryder destroying that hype job jamie cox was sweet. cox was sooooo overrated on forums for a number of years, somehow even after groves beat him

He did BJS close...very close.

Blackwell's punch power was a bit underrated and in fairness to John the stoppage came against the run of play. Up until Blackwell's barrage it appeared like Ryder was probably on his way to a points win...at least that's how I was reading things at the time.

Some of John's points losses were debatable.

Close fight but Jacobs won it IMO.

Good luck to Ryder in his retirement. I always liked him as a fighter. But looking at the divisions at the moment, there doesn't seem to be anywhere for him to go, it's probably the right choice...

agree and seems he made enough money at the end, he'll be a solid I imagine, so many experiences to pass on from losing domestic level fights, to getting contentious decisions vs him (and 1 for) and fighting two of the biggest names.

Respect for the guy, rising from going life and death in British level scraps to being a bulldozer later in his carreer and never backing down. He won against Callum Smith IMO, so his late carreer boom at the end was deserved even if It hurt Jacobs (whom was already going half-regime by then).

deffo respect, he made good money and it's heartening to hear he will be staying in the sport. Good interview with him in BN this week, think he'll be learning from Sims.
