Gene Tunney thought he was good, real good.
the dude fought 98 pro fights between 1911-1929
and it looks like he may have been from the same gene pool as Charles Bronson !

here is what Gene Tunney had written about Charley Weinert in his 1932 autobiography
A MAN MUST FIGHT, pp 151-152.
"Weinert, in my opinion was the cleverest Heavyweight developed in the last twenty-five years.
he had amazing speed and skill.
His left jab was vicious, It broke my nose"

Charley Weinert is simulation showed he was capale of getting victories over....

Bill Brennan
Luis Firpo
Battling Jim Johnson
Frank Moran
Tony Gallento
Floyd Johnson
Robert Cleroux
Jess Willard
Tom Cowler
Pierre Coetzer
Bearcat Wright

Now he may not have been ranked ahead of some of these people but this was what he was "capable" of it's a solid list.

Solid good record, but stopped 8 times. Only by looking at the record; very good but short of great.

I think I remember reading somewhere that he was scheduled to face Jack Johnson
in Arizona or somewhere ( after Johnson was to be released from Leavenworth in 1920 )

Very good boxer but had durability issues and was a bit of a front runner.
