Wladimir Klitschko vs Jameel McCline (assuming McCline is very aggressive)

Back in 2002, when Klitschko dominated and stopped McCline in what was a boring, possibly over-cautious effort by Wladimir, lots of people speculated that the result could have gone the other way. They claimed that McCline, who was even more cautious than Klitschko, could have won if only he moved forward and opened-up aggressively with both hands.

Let's suppose McCline fought aggressively. Could he have overwhelmed Wlad, the same way Corrie Sanders did?

I'm going to say no, that McCline could not have won had he been more aggressive. That's my judgment given that Klitschko controlled the action at all times with his jab, which seemed to constantly jar McCline. Further, it appeared that Klitschko was capable of beating McCline to the punch with right hands, which probably explains why Jameel was so defensive.

My conclusion: had McCline been aggressive, Klitschko probably would have clocked him with some bombs and won by KO in the early to middle rounds.

For McCline to have fought aggressively he'd have to be a completely different human being than who he is.

McCline in spite of his hulking size always fought as if he were a Chihuahua asked to take down a Rottweiler. He looked noticeably scared in almost every big fight he ever had.

Go back and look at the fight when he knocks out Michael Grant with the 1st punch of the fight. While throwing that 1st punch. He looks scared to death. Like "Oh God I hope this works before this guy kills me!"

It's just who he was.

If I recall correctly. I think they said on HBO once that he'd only had 1 amateur bout before turning Pro. If he would've had a more extensive amateur career it may have given him the chance to get more comfortable in the ring.

Good post

He had sam peter down 3 times and gassed out. No way he beats wlad at anything but weight lifting.
