Is Mike Tyson broke again?

He is due to fight Jake Paul in a sanctioned boxing match.

Nobody at 57 years of age should be anywhere near a boxing ring, regardless if they were once a champion. And Jake Paul may be a youtuber, but he's a big lump who is paying for world class boxing trainers to teach him. He has that special needs vibe where it doesn't matter if he is fighting an 80 year old woman, he's going for the kill.

I genuinely can't rationalise why Mike Tyson would get behind this if not for the reoccuring reason he usually gets behind things like this..

He is broke, or at least not in a financially great place.

No idea if he is broke or not, I suspect not but I don't know.
This JP nonsense will 100% end in a draw same as the RJJ 'fight' and the way that Exhibitions always used to.
It won't be a professional contest and he will take home what, $50m?

Gosh!
Roman, the final cubit zirconia in the Fury crown got a few million for that deep in the undercard fight it looked like he barely trained for?

Money talks. I’m sure there will be some sort of an agreement drawn up for safety reasons

Whatever platform this is on, the execs of that have no shame. In 2021 58 year old Evander got KO'd in one round by the UFC fighter Vitor Belfort didn't he?

What kind of scumbags allow this sort of thing.... I mean he's almost 60 years old. If he has a heart attack in the middle of the bout what then? They ban boxing because some greedy money mad idiots thought it would be OK for someone that old to do something as strenuous as boxing?

The world has gone mad. Please at least tell me this bout isn't sanctioned by anyone.

It’s not sanctioned by anyone yet bud.

They’re obviously aiming to have it in Texas but they haven’t even applied for sanctioning by the Texas commission. They have until 3 weeks before to request sanctioning so I’d imagine they’ll be doing all they can to prove Tyson is in good enough physical shape for it to be a pro fight. If they don’t license then it’ll be called an exhibition but I’d imagine they’d both still go for it.

I hate this fight.

You can always tell with Floyd that the latest fight he has lined up to revive the money he has punted off gambling.

Remember when GGG Vs a 28-0, 21 year old world champion couldn't get sanctioned because Munguía was "not of the level of Golovkin" but a different commission is going to be sanctioning a 58 year old to fight in a professional contest.

I cannot believe for a moment this is a sanctioned fight - have full details been released yet.

Last I heard they were wearing headguards and 18oz gloves, which doesn't sound like a real fight to me.

The number of imbeciles out there who think Tyson would actually batter Paul is quite frightening, he's an old man ffs, however good he looks on the pads. He might have a chance if he managed to clip him really early, but Mike will be blowing out of his arse after a single round of serious fighting. He looked utterly spent 20 years ago, let alone now.

I doubt Tyson is skint, isn't his weed business doing really well?

Completely agreed.

I remember how shocking Tyson was st the back end of his career - couple that with his age

He had the tyson ranch/weed thing, I don't know how it turned out, the last few articles on it are a few years old. He also sells t shirts and has the podcast, no idea if he has any more tangible assets.

The man has 7 children, and is an A lister with probably loads of expenses.

I used to watch his podcast and didn't like how out of it and vulnerable he looked. Wouldn't surprise me if people were still fleecing him and he needs the money.

I think Tyson is probably a lot better advised than he was in his boxing prime, I doubt he's anywhere near skint. Mike's not an idiot, I think he's learned the lessons of this youth.

exactly. Tyson will always be able to have a solid living. And tbf it's not like he does much now. He wasted all his money, raped someone and is still lauded as a victim. He is definitely the world's favourite nonce.

I dunno about that Steve.
You might be a bit young, but everyone was very concerned about Sugar Ray back in the day.
Even without social media, it was widely known he was on a spiral and lost most of his money in a series of things.
Luckily he came back out of retirement, like a boss, and made his fortune all over again.

battled some demons did Sugar Ray, his autobiography is well worth a read. On a lower and domestic level I remember being gutted when Graham Earl ended up involved in drugs and got sent down a few years after retiring, really liked watching him and always came across well. Met him randomly once in Hitchin and he was lovely.

yeah maybe. i have zero sympathy for someone like mike who earned that amount and blew thru it. I read his autobiography and it was the ultimate example of victim mentality. "woe is me..." all the way thru, I could barely finish it. It made me think teddy atlas reads him completely right when he discusses mike in interviews.
