He is no kid, if he hasn't got it now he never will.
It's the deep end time! Azim is an option, other than that it's time to look for a belt for him.

Maybe this is a bit left field, but I'd like to see him in with Liam Paro.

There would be a high ranking with the WBO on the line. Liam is a nuggety tough puncher from Australia, if Dalton can get past him, it would be a good platform for a world title shot.

Oh wow! Didn't know that was on the cards.
If styles make fights, then Matias is all wrong for Paro. It's also too much, too soon.

he's 27, so no mad rush. Top 15 on Boxrec now, perhaps Sandor Martin?

I think 27 is around prime for a SLW. A lot of them lose a step seemingly overnight after 30, or at least have to modify how they fight.

fair point, had not thought about the differences in peaks amongst weights. I end up thinking of HWs who can go on longer. HWs are the goalkeepers of boxing aren't they.

gabriel gollaz velenzulea, the mexican who beat robbie davis a few years back, would be cool.
sandor martin is a good fighter but a very hard and tricky watch.

I don't think Azim or his team will want it tbh and I just can't see how he beats Smith .
It would be a great domestic showdown, but they mostly never get made until it's toward the end of their careers.

ya, and vaelenzuela has beat some other decent fighters too. he is strong and fun, though a bit of a wild slugger. a good test for dalt vs a different style
hes fought on at least 3 matchroom cards before too

Yes, and that is really just this century, and the glacial way the HW division runs now.
As for SLW, Josh Taylor is a classic example -
30 years old, 4 belt champion, world beater, undefeated.
31 years old (arguably) loses to Jack Catterall
32 years old loses to Teo Lopez (despite all his issues)
33 years old set to fight Catterall again, and unless Catterall has aged overnight, probably loses to him.
30-33 only 3 fights, belts gone, earning potential slashed, prime wasted.

Still a big name, but notably on the slide and Smith should be able to beat him at this stage.

Prograis is probably too much too soon. And he hasn't lost his power, he just wasn't slick enough to catch Haney who is elite.

Ismael barosos. Dangerous fight but should be very winnable. Bit of a name. Sure won’t get 100 percent credit due to his age, but will get an interim belt and likely a shot vs Cruz or rolo.

Brandun Lee. California fighter 28(23)-0.
I think Lee is with PBC though so can they cross the promotional bridge?
Would be the perfect fight for the two of them. Winner moves into top ten & loser still young enough to come again.
As a side attraction they could have a Food Off. Lee is Korean-Mexican-American while Smith if from Sheffield so it could be Korean Tacos against whatever it is they eat in Sheffield. Chips & curry sauce?

But what I will say before Dalton goes for those top 3 why not have the “Battle of Britain “ so i think Eddie should pitch Smith in with the winner of Taylor/Catterall. That fight would be massive.
Jamaine Ortiz is beatable as is Regis Prograis

Not sure he's elusive enough to not get caught by Prograis unless Regis is truly washed, as others have said Haney was just too good. Agree he's potentially beatable though.
I'd quite like the McComb or Valenzuela fights. Martin, but only if it's a vacant or final eliminator. No point otherwise.
Can't see Barroso.
