Coming off another thread this post.

So let's think about sons of UK nationality who have not done anywhere near as good as their fathers career.

Then let's look at sons of UK nationality champions who have done better than their fathers.

Tyson Fury done a little bit better than Big John Fury .

Ross Minter struggled a bit without any big weapons.

John and Stan McDermott. Stan lost a British title eliminator to Meade, John won an eliminator and despite never being British champion, did win the Southern Area and English titles. I do think John got robbed against Williams in the MD loss for the British title too. Retired as English champ avenging a loss to Skelton too.

Big fan of John, always seemed a lovely fella too.

Hughie and Peter Fury. Peter had one pro fight and lost, Hughie despite the joking has had a decent career, fought for a version of the world title at 22, never been knocked out, won British title convincingly and also a minimal WBO trinket.

easy ones of falling short - Conor/Nigel, Chris/Chris Jr

Zak Chelli Jr has won British and CW SMW title. His father fought as a pro with less success, although no slight on senior as his support is why Zak has turned out such a decent person and boxer. Zak Senior is for me the proudest dad of any pro who is an ex pro himself, lovely gent.

Gomez Sr has won British title, Gomez Jr has had less success in terms of platform but has won the area title twice, is current English champ and only lost once and never been stopped so who knows if he will exceed his father.

In terms of journeymen, the Garganos are interesting - 123 bouts for Des god rest his soul, with 33 wins, whereas Curtis fought 52 times and never nicked a win.

good shout remember seeing him on tv in the Contender show Paul Smith and Robin Reid fought on. Obviously not as good as his Pa but did win area and English title, not a bad career.

Dick and Jack Richardson, fairly similar level but Jack was British champion and junior never won the belt.

I watched all of Ross Minter’s early fights live and he looked the business.

But this is a sport of levels - and as often happens, he just couldn’t carry that fluid (slightly cocky) style up.

Shea Neary won a WBU title his son James Metcalfe had a decent career .

Joe Bugner Jnr never achieved much, whereas his father was a genuine world title contender at his best.

Steve Foster Jnr just about outperformed his dad, though both fell short at world level. I always liked watching them both and can't believe how long ago Snr was boxing - nearly 30 years since I saw him beat Chris Pyatt in Manchester! Winky Wright a step too far for him.

Steve Robinson's boy is Welsh champ

Scott Welch had a decent career picking up a few straps and fought for the WBO HW crown.

His son Tommy is 14-0 but has not been tested yet, time for Tommy to step up i think.

Steve the viking Foster had a reasonable career and i think won commonwealth title.

His son, also Steve, looked the absolute business in his early fights and was given the big push by sky (i think)... but he ended up having nothing more than a decent career. There were even more trinket belts around in those days.
