This fight actually could've happened back in May of 2019, at a neutral venue in Chicago. But Usyk decided to turn that fight down, citing "political climate" as the main reason.

Either way, even if they would've proceeded with that fight - Povetkin was already past it, by that time. Still could've been a good fight, but...

But what if we match Usyk vs Prime Povetkin? Tough to say, when was exactly Povetkin's prime. Maybe, it's 2008-2013. Or maybe, it's 2014-2016 (when he was roided as f**k)

Thoughts?

Usyk is much better, he would barely shot Povetkin out.

I pick Usyk, too. But I think the first half of the fight would've been interesting. Povetkin had a really good handspeed and combination punching. He also worked the body well. And he could bring the pressure, that Usyk may have struggled against (at least, early on).

Now, what would've been his undoing is that Povetkin kinda attacks in the straight lines. And his footwork couldn't have matched Usyk's. I think, Pov would've found it difficult to trap Usyk on regular basis.

Also, Povetkin's defense was never perfect. He was far too hittable throughout his whole career.

However, if Briedis and Chisora were able to be competitive, Povetkin could compete, too.
