Eddie Hearn

It is very clear Eddie Hearn is outstanding at what he does.
He is the worlds no1 boxing promoter… do you disagree?
What does he need to change?
What does he do best?
For me Eddie has his clear favourites … AJ & Conor Benn. With regards his loyalty for Benn, imo if he wasnt as good as he is, he could have seriously tarnished his brand the way he has blindly defended Benn.
It would be good if Eddie held a press conference to drop Benn
Comments please

Disagree Spud.
From your own post you’ve said what I feel.
A promotor publishes the sport, then his fighters, then himself.
Therein lies the rub.
Eddie serves Eddie/Matchrooom. Otherwise they’d had severed links with Conor. Sadly they need to garner some recompense for the whole fiasco.
Then drop him like a bad habit.

He’s spent some dough mate
He needs at least half his outlay. If he gets a Saudi fight. He might break over even. Otherwise its lose lose

I get that pal … but to be so brand conscious and for Benn to be so high profile i am stunned

he is not
distancing himself.
It reminds me of the day when i blindly rucked with anyone who slated the promoter I worked with at the time

Haha
I think I know who u on about.
But does Fast Eddie have SO much skin in this game he has to try to break even?
Can you see Benn hanging with Boots? Let alone Bud. I really can’t. He’s not yet won British!
But! We get Paq, Khan, Kell bollox. Its terrible innit?

Is being loyal to someone a bad thing?
Dana White takes a lot of flack for being close with Trump. He’s even had advertisers threaten to leave unless he withdraws his support for him. He’s told them where to go because of what Trump did to help the ufc early doors. Even though I don’t like Trump it strangely makes me like White more because he is loyal like that.
Eddie’s probably the top promoter in boxing. He’s old school in that he’s tried to make himself centre of attention so there are views when he talks about anything. Including his fighters.
A lot of the other promotional companies don’t really have a front man pushing it hard. Arum is the face of Top Rank but doesn’t do a great deal. Haymon/Tom Brown aren’t really seen for PBC and Shalom doesn’t do much for Boxxer. They each tend to rely on their respective networks to push things. Ideally you’d need both.

Was he loyal to Ohara Davies?

I think Eddie is the number one globally. No idea what he is like as a person but he's definitely charming, can sell and knows the sport and has decades of experience via his father and then his own right for past 14 years or so. I do know Matchroom have a charitable arm that funds community projects which is laudable too.
I do admire Warren still being around after so many years too. His sons seem very diplomatic and have probably learned from observation.
I think Izzy Asif is going to be a big big part of the sport promotionally moving forward and his shows have been excellent so far with a quality beyond GBM's years.

Great promoter but his ambitions have got too big. I don't doubt he gets his fighters bigger paydays than most other promoters would get them and he will be loyal to them but I barely even know who's with Matchroom anymore. His promotion has spread too far and it doesn't seem that he's putting the effort in for big UK cards anymore.
The Benn situation has hurt his reputation massively though. We all know boxing promoters are some of the least genuine guys out there but this one has been so obvious and it's difficult for anyone to see it any different to him lying to the fans and thinking they are idiots.
When the Saudi money dries up or AJ retires, he needs a proper UK star, not a poorly manufactured on like Benn or Campbell Hatton. If he doesn't find his next star or two and just focuses on "Global" boxing while trying to force non-stars on us as headliners then he could have a darker period in UK boxing.

He pays his fighters on time and in full.
That puts him way above most

Just seen an interview with Wayne McCullogh where he’s saying one of his guys hasn’t been paid after fighting in Aus. Not sure who the promoter was.

It seems the last year or 2 Matchroom have been concentrating more on putting on competitive cards from top to bottom than padding it with names, their NXT GEN shows and their Mexican cards have been quality, even the novices are matched well, don't see any losing records on their cards these days

He inherited a company worth hundreds of millions of pounds. Reread that. He says jump and people jump. That's not talent or being great at what you do. It's being born with a silver spoon in your mouth and set up so you can't fail. All the BS about him "making it" is absolute rubbish.

I don't think that is a fair assessment of Spud

I get it that he inherited the company, silver spoon etc, but so have countless others and they don't have anywhere near the work ethic that Fast Car has. A lot of them sit on their arses and just live off daddy's money.
Not fast car, he genuinely works his nuts off, one of the most driven people I've ever seen.
I think he's excellent at what he does, regardless of his background.

Good post, spot on in my opinion. He's made it work overall whilst having his fair share of failures too.
Look at PBC they've basically just p*ssed millions of dollars up the wall and now bankrupt allegedly.

If you think that Matchroom was worth "hundreds of millions" when Eddie took his senior role, then you know nothing about the valuation of companies.
