They are my guilty twitter pleasure. Inspires me that he is still so fit at his age and what he’s put himself through. He’s put a plea out for promotors for one last fight. It would be great to see him padger a YouTuber on a misfits card and find some peace of mind.

I remember walking passed Harrison at T in the Park back when he was still world champ, the wheels were coming off though and the press up here were always on his back, front page every other week for something or other, he noticed I was staring at him and turned back, stared straight at me with that growl he's always wearing, gave me a wave, for a split sec I thought he was gonna chin me, scary looking mofo

I hear you. Being hard is just in his DNA, like Eamonn Magee. I thought he would achieve a lot more. He was almost unstoppable once.

he looks fit and healthy, always enjoyed watching him fight.

He always came across like the type with a short temper/angry disposition, similar to the likes of Eamon Magee i always thought, couple that with a booze problem and you have a recipie for disaster, ultimately it derailed Harrisons career.

it did indeed sadly. I recently read a biograhy of Eamonn Magee called The Lost Soul of Eamonn Magee, it was written in 2018 and I came across it accidentally in the library. It is such a good and honest read. The biographer gets close to his family and is allowed to write honestly - well worth a read.

Thanks mate, appreciate the recomendation. I used to be an avid reader but i very rarely read books these days, very busy family and work life getting in my way. I still like to buy books though thinking i'll get around to reading them, about a dozen on the shelf now waiting for their day lol

Just googled the book, its got rave reviews, sounds like a good read. Still, he always came across like an ar*shole to me, not the type i'd want to live next door to, or in the same town, or even in the neighbouring town, so i'd likely have a hard time endearing myself to him which is what i'd expect this book to be aiming for with the reader?

my pleasure mate. And I think you'd be pleasantly surprised. What did endear me to him was that he told the author to speak to anyone he wanted to and was not bothered about a censored account or a hagiography. Magee does not come out of it looking like a victim or good guy, just a very flawed alcoholic who wasted a lot. And had a lot of pain knowing what he'd done to his loved ones, including ruining family relationships. I genuinely enjoyed reading it. And I 1000% would not have wanted him as a neighbour or loved one. And I think what comes throughout the pages is his honesty. He was the architect of his own demise. His two brothers who turned pro and moved away went on to live very different lives and the book explores that a little which is interesting.

I know most of these biographies explore an arc where victim A had a sad life and everything was against them and we should all give them a big love at the end. This book is markedly different.

and totally understand re the family and work getting in the way of reading. I steal my reading moments where I can, always a struggle!

Cheers mate, appreciate your input on this one and your offer to send the book, though i live abroad, and honestly, at this time in my life it would probably end up on the shelf gathering dust. Best give it to someone who will get stuck right into reading it.

I'll def keep it in mind though, once the kids fly the nest i'll hopefully get back into reading like i used to

I saw Harrison box live at two completely different stages of his career....against Tracy Harris Patterson in New York and then years later at Wembley against Liam Walsh.

In my view Scott probably over achieved. He had a good run with WBO version of the featherweight title but managed to avoid boxing any of the top tier world champions...Barerra, Marquez, Morales, Pacquiao.

To be fair, some of Harrison's challengers were a bit suspect. Samuel Kebede was atrocious !
I also thought Polo beat Harrison, but the judges scored the fight a draw.

Although he shared a win & a loss with the perennially tough & tricky Manual Medina I don't think he could have competed on equal terms with the 4 greats mentioned above.

I agree. He was terrifically strong and fit and had excellent technique (particularly the jab) but proved to be pretty basic if an opponent could live with him physically. I don't think he'd have had any chance with them.
