William Zepeda vs Giovanni Cabrera planned for July 6th on DAZN

William Zepeda is both the IBF and WBA mandatory lightweight challenger

Turns out DAZN will be counterprogramming ESPN’s Shakur Stevenson vs Artem Harutyunyan show (and Jorge Masvidal vs Nate Diaz) on July 6th, as Salvador Rodriguez reports that William Zepeda will meet Giovianni Cabrera that evening.

Zepeda (30-0, 26 KO) is currently Vasiliy Lomachenko’s mandatory challenger after bulldozing Maxi Hughes in March and has been Gervonta Davis’ WBA mandatory for a hot minute, but neither is likely to call his number anytime soon; Lomachenko just claimed his belt last week and the WBA is loath to order mandatories for their more lucrative champions.

Respect to him for staying busy against another credible opponent. Cabrera (22-1, 7 KO) didn’t make many fans in last July’s split decision loss to Isaac Cruz, but he did manage to hang with and frustrate one of the division’s most aggressive fighters while eating his best shots without issue. Even if he’s not likely to put a dent in “Camaron,” odds are he won’t roll over, either.

Ricardo Sandoval-Angel Acosta leads William Zepeda-Giovanni Cabrera undercard

The flyweight title fight between Ricardo Sandoval and Angel Acosta will act as the co-main event to William Zepeda-Giovanni Cabrera at the Toyota Center in Ontario, California on Saturday.

Sandoval is 24-2 (17 KOs), and the Rialto, California resident meets Puerto Rico’s former champion Acosta, 24-2 (22 KOs) over 10 rounds.

Elsewhere on the DAZN broadcast, the Coachella Valley’s Manuel “Gucci Manny” Flores (17-1, 13 KOs) will participate in a 10-round junior-featherweight fight against Nohel Arambulet (23-6-2, 13 KOs) of Las Vegas. Opening the broadcast, exciting prospect and former Team USA member Joel Iriarte (2-0, 2 KOs) fights Yainel Alvarez (3-4-2, 1 KO) of Hutto, Texas in a six-round welterweight contest.

Headlining the Golden Boy Boxing YouTube channel prelims, Chicago, Illinois’ Alex Martin (18-5, 6 KOs) will return in a 10-round junior-welterweight fight against seasoned Pedro Campa (35-3-1, 24 KOs) of Sonora, Mexico. In a four-round bantamweight contest, former Mexican Olympic team member of Sonora, Mexico, Gael “El Terror” Cabrera (4-0, 2 KOs) will fight Mychaquell Shields (2-4) of Alpine, California.

Also, as part of the prelim show, the recently signed Golden Boy prospect Joshua “El Americano” Garcia (8-0, 4 KOs) of Moreno Valley, California, fights Jason Buenaobra (10-10-3, 4 KOs) of Manila, Philippines over six rounds at junior lightweight.

Over four rounds at super welterweight, Ontario, California’s Anthony Saldivar (6-0, 2 KOs) will fight Roman Canto (15-17-3, 9 KOs) also of Manila, Philippines. In a comeback fight, young prospect Daniel Luna (3-1, 3 KOs) of Victorville, California will face Joseph Walker (1-1) of Forrest City, Arkansas in a four-round lightweight fight. Opening fight night, Japhethlee Llamido (11-1, 4 KOs) of Long Beach will participate in an eight-round super-bantamweight fight with Las Vegas, Nevada’s Ryan Allen (10-7-1, 5 KOs).

This is a good main event. Cambrera did ok vs cruz... if zepeda stops him it will be impressive.

Giovanni is awkward, if you watched tape you would kinda say he is shit.. but its effective. throws punches that look poor, but they land. like a sloppy shovle uppercut hook, that looks like it has no right to land. but it does.

how so? he destroyed in 3 rounds a guy who pitbull cruz couldnt put a dent in and only beat by sd. he had his customary slower first round and then was in command from there

Cabrera began pretty positive shooting out the punches but Zepeda done what Zepeda does and that's overwhelming guys, there was 3 body shots he landed before Cabrera went down, too much for him, Zepeda continues to impress
