Jimmy Young and Tim Witherspoon were two of Phillys finest and most talented Heavyweights of the 1970's and 1980's respectively.

However both lacked at times dedication in training for various reasons.

So if both turned up clean, motivated and in shape, who do you think would have won?

I'm thinking along the lines of the Witherspoon who fought Holmes against the Young who fought Foreman.

Hard one to call? What do you think fight fans? :TU:

At their best, Young was in a class above Witherspoon as a boxer.

Terrible Tim had a great overhand right, a good hard jab, and athletic talent but he gassed himself out and was rather primitive in his boxing skills regarding counter-punching, feinting, and fighting a disciplined fight plan. Young would frustrate and decision Witherspoon, losing no more then 3 rounds.

I disagree. I think Witherspoon is greatly underrated. He would be patient and make Young come to him which wasnt Young's game. Witherspoon would use his high guard to block Youngs pitty pat shots and counterpunch his way to a boring decision.

Witherspoon was at his best at 38, in 1996. He was mature, fought at a sensible pace, and knew how & when to use his large arsenal of punches.

If he'd have got the decision against Mercer he deserved who knows what the frick could have happened in 1997???

Instead he got jobbed, sat out a year & got old & fat and lost his edge.

Dammit.
