Would Michael Spinks have beaten Bivol and/or Beterbiew at light heavy? I reckon he`s got a good shout

massive light heavy with serious power and skill packaged in an awkward style. fit guy who could do 15. certainly he'd have a good shot vs either at minimum, possibly beat both. could be convincing jobs too

Prime, I'd take him to beat both of them clearly, although not at the same time.

Much love for Spinks.

I think people generally remember him more for his loss to Tyson than the great work he did at light heavy and the way he fought tooth and nail with Larry Holmes, despite giving up a fair amount of weight.

Great fighter

yeah i go with the majority here, too much power for Bivol and too fvcking awkward/strong/fit for Beterbiev on a styles basis.

Spinks would have to be an all-time top 5 awkward style to deal with

Spinks is an ATG at light heavy - top three and the era he was champ - the rankings was a murderers row of contenders - probably the most in-depth in the history of the division. :salut:

Michael Spinks wins all day long.
Leon Spinks loses
Terry Spinks loses.

Agreed Carlos, top 3 at the weight. He’d make Beterbiev look slower than a week in the jail. 🫡
:salut: and welcome!

Spinks was an absolute monster at LHW. I'd pick him over both by stoppage.

Spinks beats them but they are still elite fighters. Spinks was just the best 175 pounder ever, so far anyway.

for me, no chance, we view past boxer through a mirage of a lens, most modern boxers would smash the previous ones.

Actually, today I'd pick Spinks over any LHW ever.

Spinks was very awkward, as well as being huge at the weight. Very difficult to beat on any given day. A proper old school 15 round fighter. Going up and beating Holmes was some effort, and he beat Holmes at his own game (2nd fight was a bit of a gift though)

He'd give Bivol and Beterbiev fits. I think we give modern fighters way too much credit when looking at how'd they do against past fighters.

i mean in the grand scheme of things spinks didnt really box that long ago. boxing technique was pretty much the same as it is today by that point. day before weigh ins started and guys were starting to more closely resemble the size of current boxers in each division. it's not like the crude jousting matches of the early 1900s or the eras where 5'7 168 pounders were heavyweight champs. if anything, fitness was greater in the 15 round era. spinks prob a bit underpowered as a heavy, but as a light heavy he ticks all the boxes

to be arguably the greatest lhw ever, and then end the unbeaten run of larry holmes at hw, that is pretty special

The Jinx was absolute quality.
Think he’d hang with any from any era at LH.
No doubt.
Maybe rose tinted glasses as my real era as a fan .

Spinks v RJJ. What would you pay for that?

I don't have historic spectacles, I've just loved boxing for 45 years plus. Would pick prime RJJ as he was faster but of course MS was much heavier handed.

Wow. Now that’s a match up.
Think RJJ was a better SM. But yep this match up works on all levels.
Quandary now Loynesy. You got me.
Spectacles in the bin!!

But we all got RJJ over the current 2 yes?

Spinks came up from 12 stone 6, not 14 stone 4.

Obviously he was talented, but an animal too, like Duran
