William Scull still has his first career title fight well in his sights.
The unbeaten mandatory challenger was ordered to enter talks with Vladimir Shishkin for the vacant IBF super middleweight title. Scull-Shishkin was officially ordered on July 29, with a 30-day negotiation period assigned to the process.
Scull is represented by AGON Sports. Shishkin is signed to Salita Promotions.
The winner will claim the title removed from the clutches of RING and unified 168-pound champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 knockouts). Fittingly, the development came as Alvarez announced his championship defense versus WBA mandatory Edgar Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs). Their bout will take place on Sept. 14 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Re: William Scull vs. Vladimir Shishkin - IBF Ordered
With true world super middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez now having been stripped by the IBF, the next IBF title fight at 168 pounds will be #1 William Scull vs. #2 rated Vladimir Shishkin for the vacant title. A purse bid has been called for tomorrow by the IBF. The little known Scull is a German-based Cuban, age 32, with a pro record of 22-0. Shishkin is Russian born and fights out of the United States. He's 16-0 and 33 years old. Meanwhile, Alvarez will defend his world championship vs. Edgar Belanga on September 14th.
Re: William Scull vs. Vladimir Shishkin - October 19, 2024
William Scull and Vladimir Shishkin will contest the vacant IBF super-middleweight title on October 19 at the Town Hall in Falkensee, near Berlin, Germany.
The title became vacant when Saul “Canelo” Alvarez relinquished it to fight Edgar Berlanga instead of honor a mandatory defence against the very capable but little-known Scull (22-0), 32 years old and who hails from Cuba.
Scull began his professional career in Argentina but joined Agon Sport, who with Kuc Boxing will co-promote his next fight, in 2019. Agon – like other Germany-based promoters, Sauerland Events especially – followed the IBF’s rules; Scull became the mandatory challenger to the IBF title after beating Evgeny Shvedenko in 2022.
Shishkin (16-0), 33 and of Russia, beat Jose Uzcategui in another IBF title eliminator, also in 2022.
Alvarez will defend the WBO, WBA and WBC titles against Berlanga at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena.

Shishkin has got this I think (though admittedly I've not seen much of Scull)

Re: William Scull vs. Vladimir Shishkin - October 19, 2024
Canelo Alvarez has been the premier super middleweight since late 2020 and proceeded to become undisputed champion in 2021.
However, while boxing’s biggest star is never short of challengers, he can only fight so many of them and that includes his mandatories. Back in August the IBF decided their mandatory William Scull had waited long enough and stripped Canelo of their title.
On Saturday, Scull will face Vladimir Shishkin for the vacant IBF title at the Stadthalle, Falkensee, near Berlin, Germany.
“It’s a dream come true to be able to fight Vladimir Shishkin for the world title on October 19 after so many years of waiting,” Scull (22-0, 9 knockouts) told The Ring. “It means a lot to me because it has been my dream since I was a child and I am very happy to be able to compete in this championship thanks to the support of my family, who are involved in all of this, my coach Franquis Aldama, my fitness trainer Raul Moggiano and my promoter Agon Sport (Ingo Volckmann).”

Re: William Scull vs. Vladimir Shishkin - October 19, 2024
DAZN has announced that they have acquired the broadcast rights to Saturday’s vacant IBF super middleweight title fight between William Scull and Vladimir Shishkin.
The streamer will have the fight available to subscribers in the United States, United Kingdom, and Latin America. The four-fight show will air live from Berlin starting at 3 pm ET tomorrow. Bad Left Hook will be here with live updates.
Scull (22-0, 9 KO) is a 32-year-old Cuban based in Germany, who has been mandatory challenger for the belt, which Canelo Alvarez vacated to instead fight Edgar Berlanga in September, as Scull, being fair here, has absolutely no name value in the United States, and his record is even emptier than Berlanga’s, however much you might want to criticize the Berlanga choice.
Shishkin (16-0, 10 KO) is a 33-year-old Russian based in the United States, who has been seen on some ShoBox cards and the like in the States. Shishkin hasn’t exactly faced the cream of the crop at 168 lbs, but does have more of any note on his record than Scull.
Basically, it’s a fight for everyone to find out how good William Scull really might be, because he’s unbeaten but unproven thus far.

I envy you. Scull absolutely sucks, just no significant offence whatsoever. Shishkin isn't that much better, but I have him doing a bit in spots at least.
I have it 7-3 Shishkin after 10

The commentator says Scull has "pulled away", well, one of us has to be wrong. I have Shishkin winning this clearly.
Scull all over the place in the 12th, seems out of it.
I'm assuming they'll give it to Scull anyway.
9-3 Shishkin for me.

Apparently I'm blind.
I don't know, watch it yourself and come to your own conclusions, as I said I had Shishkin winning handily.

It was scored 116-113, 116-112 and 115-113 for Scull after a close, tense, tactical fight in which Shishkin tried to attack while Scull was looking to counter.

I had it 115-113 Shishkin, it wasn't a classic but the rounds swung back and forth on my card which kept things interesting, both similar styles, very conventional, a lot of lefts jabs and right crosses, not many hooks, uppercuts or body shots, Scull not busy enough for me and got rocked by a innocuous shot in the 12th, had him teetering and spitting his guard out, he kept holding while Shishkin looked for the KO but rather than warn Scull the ref kept on Shishkin for trying to fight it out, bit bizarre, i cant say robbery but I thought Shishkin deserved it personally

Hmmm, a Berlin-based fighter winning a questionable decision in Germany. Where have I seen that before? (I know, it happens everywhere but I expected the result in Germany)
