Given Sikhs were a warrior class there are few Sikh boxers. There are a couple in the UK, Inder Bassi, Jordan Flynn I think. Another one whose name escapes me…. Can anyone add more names?

Everyone who gets hit in the head in a boxing ring is a warrior in my book.

There was a Sikh boxer in the 1990s called Ram Singh.
He would fight anyone, usually loosing.

Pardeep Singh Nagra was an outstanding amateur and a trailblazer for Canadian boxing. His story is worth googling. We needed him. I hope he becomes a federal politician someday.

To be fair there don’t seem to be any good quality Sikh boxers but I’m sure one will come along.

thanks Bling, just Googled it, what a man, boxer, police officer and educator. Credit to him for achieving reforms in boxing too.

tough man https://boxrec.com/en/box-pro/14426 55 pro fights, fought Matthew Macklin, Colin Lynes, Matthew Hatton, 7 year career and fought all over England and Scotland. Proper Sikh warrior.

Harry Dhami was a Southern Area & British champion.

Dhami successfully defended the Southern Area belt four times and the British title twice.

I think he was also the first boxer of Asian heritage to win a British title.

That's not a bad list of achievements !

india has decent amateur program, there are probably some who've achieved well in the ams but slim pickings in the pros

Indian women are excellent amateurs.

sounds about right mate. It's the level of bitterness that always makes me chuckle, going out of their way to criticise someone with malice. No time for that.

Trolls can eff off typical new age internet w@nkers: no respect. To even be a "low level" pro makes you a warrior and takes tremendous dedication etc

Some Sikh boxers that come toml mind:
Akash Bhatia was decent he was Southern Area champ. Vijender Singh had an excellent amateur record but I think he left it too late to turn over.

Akash Bhatia was a solid amateur. I used to really enjoy watching him in the London SE division.

as far as vj singh goes, i remember him looking really good in the ams around 2007-2008. really quick and sharp. by the time he turned pro he already morphed into a dad body and was half as fast and mobile as he used to be. took me a while to realize it was the same guy id been impressed with in beijing

he was 29 i think when he debuted. old for a debut but still not really that old overall, im surprised he had already degraded so much from what i had seen previously. if you only knew about his pro fights you woulda never guessed olympic bronze, commonwealth champ, 3x olympian, etc
