Half way through this 4 parter on Amazon Prime about Benn, Eubank, Bruno and Lewis. Not bad, they seem to leave a few things out but an ok watch. What stood out to me in the interviews is the size of Lennox Lewis’s hands, they are huge. :o

The name is unimaginative given it's often used for four other specific guys in the industry.

What are they using as the common theme to tie the middleweights to the heavyweights?

Sounds like I'm being very critical but seems like a UK-targeted version of ESPN's The Kings (about the Four Kings) but without it making as much sense...

It’s about the two rivalries between them as they were all boxing in the same years

A shared heritage at a time when race relations were strained in the UK

Mental health issues in 3 out of the 4 cases

It was an enjoyable watch

Spoiler alert ……. there’s the obligatory absurd scene where Senior performs a poem to the camera

Sad news in last episode about Frank, obviously been given some sort of diagnosis about a decline in his cognitive ability.

One thing that has changed is apart from Bruno's second fight with Tyson none of these were on PPV. Benn v Eubank on prime time ITV which is how the viewing numbers were so high and how the fighters became household names.

They could have put this week's Saudi card on free to view to grow numbers for instance but making you pay makes only the keen want to see it.

I saw The Kings. I thought it was a great series. I thought I couldn’t see anything I didn’t know, But there was loads of footage I hadn’t seen. Hagler wasnt the dour man they love to characterise. He can be quite amusing.

3 episodes in. Enjoyable.

Seeing Bruno at the end of the McCall fight made it clear how much those uncle tom jibes hurt.

Also, I didn’t know Chris Eubank smoked weed.

Yes that really seemed to affect him, even in the last episode he still seems bothered by it,

It was worth a watch, but the faux commentary from Paul Dempsey was a bit annoying (to me at any rate) and the narrative that Johnny Nelson was pushing that there was underlying racism in boxing doesn't chime with how I experienced these fights at the time - just admiration of great fighters at the peak of their powers.

Lewis, as great as he undoubtedly is, doesn't come across that well, but perhaps it's becuase I have a soft spot for Bruno, whose achievements are often overlooked from that era. He did win the world championship legitimately and was a serious fighter, who just happened to fall short on occasion. And he gave Lewis hell for half a dozen rounds or so.

And still hurt him now, and people think trash talking banter doesn't do any harm

Oh heck, is it 'THIS IS A SLUGFEST BETWEEN TWO WARRIORS' type nonsense? Always severely dilutes the impact when you know it wasn't in the moment.

Just started it. Initial thoughts… Eubank v Benn 1 was a British stoppage and we really were a flag of convenience for Lennox.

I'd think Nigel was very much the 'A' side though. Wholly agree on Lennox.

Weird that Lewis merely gets 'Heavyweight Champion' on his sign and the others get full belt details.

And yes, imagine that fist swinging at your noggin. Oof.

Is it because he was undisputed?

Maybe! They could have included that with the alphabet details and dates though.

I wish Lennox had apologised to Bruno about the Uncle Tom jibe

Lennox did say so do ya forgive me to Frank without saying for what...we have to assume it was the UT thing. Frank has a quizzical look on his face for the most part.it could he is just uneasy with the camera on him maybe...the deterioration part can't help any...

Eubank and his spliff was cringe

frazier reportedly was deeply angry and resentful about ali framing him as uncle tom too --- that a particularly major insult for black dudes?

In hindsight it irks me slightly just how much credit benn and eubank still get. It’s overblown in relation to what they actually achieved. Don’t get me wrong, benn was as exciting as it gets and I loved the big nights, but ultimately they were both happy being big fish in a small pond. World class domestic title holders if you will. At no stage could either make a claim to be the best in Britain at any time (with graham, Watson and Collins around) let alone the world. Eubanks career is looked on with rose tinted glasses, he served up some absolute stinkers vs sub par opponents.
