Ruiz-Toney presser erupts!
By Matt Richardson
You just knew things would get wild at today's John Ruiz vs James Toney presser in New York City. The event quickly turned into a cursing match between Toney and Ruiz' manager/trainer Norman "Stoney" Stone. Toney tried to attack Stone, but security intervened. NYSAC chief Ron Scott Stevens then took the microphone and stated that New York was not going to tolerate this and he expects good sportsmanship. Stone then started cursing at Stevens (as you may recall, Stone was booted from ringside during Ruiz' last fight against Golota at Madison Square Garden, so there is no love lost between Stone and the NYSAC). Stevens finally got things calmed down again, but within minutes the trash talk and cursing between Toney, Ruiz and Stone began again. During the traditional photo ops, there was so much cursing that Stevens announced that the press conference was over. (More to come)

Why was Toney dressed in the Sombero and Poncho when Ruiz is Puerto Rican? Toney looks pretty solid at the weight

Toney doesn't look like a fighter anymore, he is barely recognisable to the menace who was giving Eubank and Benn the old B/S prior to their 1993 rematch.

He looks a lot more mellow and a lot more cuddly.

They'll be selling tickle me Toney's next with the way he looks. :TU:

Toney has zero class, I'd love to see him get banged out. He's the only fighter I know who enjoys worldwide recognition for pissing a large chunk of his career away.

However, Ruiz's title reign has been truly tragic for the sport. A Toney win would make the heavyweight division worth watching again. And for that we'd have to thank him.

Toney is going to end the Ruiz bore fest reign. Having Toney as a world champion will add excitement to this division imo, it will just make him even more vocal if thats possible

Why is Ruiz so boaring that he needs his mannager to talk trash for him :) Toney looks slightly chubby to me although there isn't much you can tell in a sute. Still cracking fight

How much lower can the heavyweight division sink for this to be true?

True, at least Toney's colourful, and in truth he's a natural cruiserweight anyhow, and one of the most skilful fighters, possibly THE most skilful around today.

Bizzare fight - but I hope JT wins...

I think Toney is dressed up like a Mexican to wind up Ruiz - Puerto Rico and Mexico have a boxing rivaly stretching back years.

Ruiz needs to get his pimp outfit on again - it's the only time he's ever looked remotely entertaining.

Toney looks fattish in the face but when he stripped down for his last fight, and I think he might have been 220ish, he looked pretty solid.

He looked about as comfortable as a fish on a bicycle in that outfit.

I'm sick of Ruiz, the only reason he has been able to hang on to those belts is inept refereeing, the guy should have points docked every time he fights. I forget who refereed the Jones Jr Ruiz fight, but we all saw just how effective Ruiz is when he gets penalised for continually holding.

Without his grappling tactics, he's as effective as a chocolate fireguard.

It was Jay Nady if memory serves

i am sure Toney is smart enough to get inside the refs head before the fight and ensure he makes sure holding is kept to a minimum

just a minute, i sense foul play with that simile. I used 'wooden firegrate' recently, which was a gem. this is all too similar?

As for toney, that outfit is hilarious, I think the lack of relevance makes it funny, although he probably thought he was being clever somehow.

Toney will win this one, no question.

How presumtuous of you to think you invented the simile, O deluded one.

I could just have easily have used 'chocolate teapot', or perhaps 'licorice seatbelts.'

And yes, the outfit is I think deliberately irrelevant.

Ruiz did manage to get on up on Toney at the press conference:

"Children, look at him. That is the reason why you shouldn't do drugs."

Toney tried to get to Norman Stone after he called him Toney the Phoney. I could hear Lights Out saying "I told you he would say something to me!"

This was after he'd just been ranting himself for about 10 minutes!

Look at the size of Roy Jones back in that picture and people accused him of being on riods :o :o He sure dosn't look like a blown up middle weight in that picture.
Hopefully Nady gets this fight as well at least he won't let Ruiz hug Toney all night.
