The Lost Art of Spoiling

Boxers who were very hard to look good against and weren't great to watch.

Ossie Ocasio was a very good spoiler, he had a lot of skills/tricks he used on opponents. After his run at Cruiser, he beat Pierre Coetzer, took several rounds of Ray Mercer, Tyrell Biggs and frustrated the hell out of Lennox Lewis.

Which fighters are good examples of a spoiler?

John Ruiz is the best example. Holding for all time long. Many of his bouts should be scored 0-0.

I don't know about that. David Tua looked pretty good against him.

Good topic. Lots of these guys around mostly back in the day it seems. Vilomar Fernandez, Arturo Viruet . Edwin Viruet. Guys that could make you look bad. And if you weren’t on your game, could out hustle you and cop a decision. Ask Alexis Arguello. Fernandez caught him on an “ off night”

Yes, but in rounds it was 0-0 at the time of the knockout.

Looking at his record, Ossie beat Jimmy Young twice and got a draw against a 17-0 Mike Dokes.

Back in the late 80s Sanderline Williams was always described as a spoiler.

Good shouts on Fernandez and Viruet.

Sakio Bika and Joshua Clottey are some guys that come to mind for guys that were tough to look good against. Even though he's fairly successful in his own right Erislandy Lara feels like a high level spoiler to me.

That’s who I was going to pick, he had some decent results

:TU: With the right promoter, Mike could have achieved a lot more.

Hard to look great fighting Emanuel Augustus. Although I thought he was fun to watch. That guy would make his opponent look foolish when he got into that fighting marionette routine.
