I remember when there used to be frequent comment on here about how annoying Jim Watt was as a Sky pundit.
My God......I'd be DELIGHTED if we could get someone like Watt back instead of the miserable, banal, platitude-factory that is Matthew Macklin. Does he hold a cache of Adam Smith donkey-sex videos? He can't be employed for his personality or insight, that's for fornicating sure.
And don't even get me started on Johnny Nelson.

Nelson is the cringiest of the cringiest. There are no words!

Everytime he does interviews with IFL or whoever, he always seems to be chewing on something.

They give him too much airtime.

Sky coverage is poor, their promotor is poor too.

Nelson is well spoken and has forgotten more than most folk will ever know but he has to follow the sky script, probably written by Smith.

Saying that, talking about commentators, Shane McGuigan was excellent last night

The best for me was Steve Holdsworth - a masterclass in delivering the perfect fight commentary, probably far too honest to become a Sky bumlicker.

I enjoyed listening to Adam Smith again last night on the DAZN feed.

He got a lot of heat on Sky, similar to Watt, but I thought he was good last night and didn’t favour the supposed home fighters.

I liked him too. Steve was well suited to what he did back in the Eurosport days. Working by himself, often, hundreds of miles from where the fight was happening or happened. Similar to Craig Charles commentating on Takeshi's Castle.

Watt was quality, one of the best. Nelson is always roaring with laughter at whatever anyone says to him. I don’t doubt he has the knowledge, but it’s what you do with the knowledge that matters.

Jesus, I thought he died then. Yes he was the very best. When you really couldn’t not tell he was a boxer, he was so articulate when he spoke. He is so dearly missed.

I miss Jim Watt I thought he was quality.

Jim Watt on Sky & the HBO team inc Manny Steward, mid naughties... those were the days of peak boxing coverage imo.

I always hated the stick Watt got. He spent decades as a pundit/commentator and knew what he was doing. Watt was one of the most boring fighters I've ever seen when he was active but he was effective. He went 15 rounds with a peak Alexis Arguello which says it all. As a commentator, he did bring some insight. One of the criticisms was that he formed an opinion and didn't change it but I just think he was true to his opinions and honest. He was always good at scoping out whether or not an import was good within the first minute of the fight.

He was brilliant for a long time but his time was up. Some of his commentary in his latter years were really poor.

His commentary on Valuev - Haye & Porter - Brook were especially bad.

Top commentator, generally the Johnny come latelys are poor, don't think much of Macklin, Barker is ok, Woodhall is good, McCory was great, McGuigan was really good last night.

Jim Watt was one of the smartest most knowledgeable people around boxing in his time..just look at some of the decisions he made in his own career, one shrewd guy. Like everyone people got too familiar and tired of his analysis. The one thing that surprises me since is much less skilled men have held the same role for a period that much outstays their worth…
Can’t believe of all the channels the only variety they seem to offer is the addition of female pundits/presenters. They haven’t gone for a varied line up of boxers, trainers, managers, referee/judge etc.
The innovation is surprisingly limited even from the “game changers”

He got offered big money to commentate on football. I reckon Adam Smith was delighted because it paved the way for him to pollute broadcasts with this bullsh*t commentary. Nothing more nauseating than the "A star" commentator rolling up to commentate on the main card, forcing myself and my mates to mute the broadcast. Just when you thought the cockroach was gone, he resurfaces and continues to poison broadcasts with his toxicity. Absolute pillock.

Who was it that said Smith always turned up to commentate on the main event, like Sinatra in LV at The Sands.

By then he was too high profile to do the undercard fights

the worst for me was nick halling, just off the chart levels of cheerleading for the house fighter

smith isnt much farther behind. a performance that sums him up to me was when kieran molloy was fighting some tough mexican. it was a gruelling battle where molloy was dropped and had to absolutely dig it all out of himself to win a 1 point decision (the right score). instead of focusing on how good and competitive a fight it was, smith just went on about how 'classy' molloy boxed and how he was levels above other than the kd, and how the score was too close. he just has some compulusion with trying to sell a bs narrative

watt i always liked. ya he had off nights but who doesnt. he was much more balanced than most.
